    some compressors use ammonia and that is really nasty, clears a whole area out . water eyes throaty sting (you can't breath it in ) . Takes you by surprise as it does not dissipate to fast . Still you would hear the gas being released.I believe some pools use liquid chlorine in tanks,A good rule is don't take what don't know what it is , within reason
