I knew it...9 out of 10 of us are meth head criminals!

"Ninety percent of people involved in scrapping use methamphetamine, Nelson estimates, and they often have warrants out for their arrest."

    Thats according to this article:
Copper prices, meth linked to recent uptick in scrapping thefts - Post Bulletin

Pretty broad and sweeping statement, more than likely made by an ignorant imbecile that has never scrapped anything in his life!

99% of all pedophiles own at least 1 Disney movie as well.

Maybe when the 90% of drug addicted warrant having scrapers get caught we will really clean up. I don't really care what anybody thinks. I am self employed, went to college, and make a really comfortable living, and my wife is a stay at home mom. So look down on me with pity as you give me a bunch of junk while thinking poor guy. It buys my rentals and will pay for a week in a beach house for 10 days in Sept.

What is REALLY going down is WE are saving the landfills while making money and fueling the economy. Look at the scrap yard that is economic activity, wages, gas, property, machinery, and of course it is all taxed. Taxes which provide food stamps, golf trips, and pork spending.

    Blah, Blah, Blah.

Well, I am sure there is one or 2 in my yard, but most do scrapping as a means to pay the bills.

That's an awful nice thing to say, hope the person who wrote that article loses their job and have to turn to scrapping to pay the bills ! Then they'd see who the crack head really is

i notice they don't allow outside comments to their story, probably afraid it might get "tainted" with some factual truths ; )

He claims that figure came from the county sheriff's detective, must be a hek of a place to live

He said that that house has been hit many times in the past, The police should be doing a better job of watching out for those thieves then.

Bear...my sentiments exactly! If 90% of the scrappers there are meth addicts it seems to me that they have a whole hell of a lot more problems then scrap theft. Maybe if detective Nelson was half as concerned with their drug problem as he is with scrap theft then he could get the offenders off the street.

I read somewhere that Abraham Lincoln once said that 90% of the statistics you read on the internet are made up.

this reminds of a time in brentwood, outside of nashville, while these two officers were writing up tickets for jogging side by side, instead of single file, and another for mooning them, another visitor to the park was having his stereo stolen out of his car, less than 100 feet away.

That story really pissed me off. It is stupidity from people like the officers that make blind statements such as that who give all us recyclers/scrappers a bad name. I myself have NEVER used meth or any other drug for that matter. Only what the docter gives me a script for. So I have tweeted an posted on facebook saying as much. It is plain predjudice to make such a remark as that. I am going to find an email address an explain how I feel about it. Maybe too much but it pisses me off. We make a great living recycling and all my stuff is bought and paid for. The honest way. Without dope of any kind. Yes stealing is wrong and noone should do it. Drugs are terrible and again NO ONE should use them. However there is no way 90% of us are on meth. Only buzz I catch is when I find a dumpster full of scrap even bigger buzz when its a dumpster full of towers or servers lol.

by those standards, 9 out of 10 journalists are coke/crack junkeys.

cops are too busy writing tickets for no seat belts, tinted windows, and cell phones, to wory about minor things like crime. writing tickets generates income, arresting criminals cost money and aside from that, it could be hazardous to their health.
that said, God bless the few constitutional police we have left.

What got me was the owner of Watson Recycling saying that the increase in scrapping is really an increase in the number of people on drugs. Not that I live in MN, but if I did, I certainly wouldn't be visiting that yard - it's full of tweakers.

Ahh - you're being generous with those numbers. I think it's higher than that

I am simply amazed that every time I hear one of these crazy numbers, I or no one else I know in the industry has been asked about anything like that. Maybe Nelson gathers his stats from his own group of people he kicks it with. He needs to be more concerned with weeding out his own cesspool of crooks then trying to give an honest industry a bad name. How come they don't interview the good guys that trust in the American dream and work a hard honest day to make a living. Did you know that 99% of politicians................................. Boy could we write our own story there...lol
There may a million better places to live than Iowa, but none of them are home!

Wow... what a pile of crap.

I've never done a single drug in my entire life. I guess the next 9 people I meet are all meth heads. Good to know. I'll make sure to treat em as such.

I think this guy said his fact wrong. 9 out of 10 meth heads try to scrap for drug money. Not 9 out of 10 scrappers are meth heads. Just a SMALL difference there... Would I believe the former? Yes. Many drug addicts reach to any lengths to get what they need, including scrapping.

Recycling resources, keeping less out of landfills, communicating with other people, creating connections and memories, working hard to provide for your family and offering people a service (junk removal, etc) = meth heads...right.

9 out of 10 people who make absurd judgements about 'scrappers' don't have a clue about the blood and sweat it takes to succeed in this business.

I'm here to say that its not 90% but in fact 100% of scrappers are meth heads. There, now, no one can deny it. Story over.
