    Formatting the hard drive isn't enough. As for wiping the hard drive, DBAN will do the job. As for selling the hard drives after you wipe them, you would need to purchase software that tests the hard drive for errors and bad sectors. There are free programs you could download, but I don't think they do a thorough job.
