My sweetheart has been in college for the last two years taking IT classes which will be obsolete by the time she graduates and desktop computers are really on their way out giving way to smaller devices linked to the cloud, the cloud is still computer driven but on a commercial scale.
Windows 8 is designed for cloud use.
What this means to me is that all of our information is stored on someone's big computers and we just pay for apps and subs and they feed it back to whatever device we are using.
As far as we scrappers go It looks like they are using far less precious metal in most consumer computers gadgets as technology rushes forward, so as with all gold mines they eventually get played out and we move on.

1.we all pool our cash and buy a ship to start scrapping all the containers that have fallen off of the ships over the years.
    2. we start hauling all the crt glass to the Hanford site and start piling them up to contain the leaking nuke waste, i'm sure if we piled them all up it would contain it just fine.
    3. we start recycling people, solient green style.
    4.landfill reclamation.
5.where there are people there will be waste.

I'll bet as it goes along that more of #4 happens. How many huge landfills have filled up and been closed and covered. That alone could keep a few large business busy for awhile.

Set up a shredder/sorter on the landfill site and start running stuff thru, put the fluff right back in the hole.

I know of an old landfill by where I used to live. Back in the 50's a guy bought about 30 acers of land and the first thing he did was cut down all the trees and sold them to a saw mill. Then he dug a big hole and sold the dirt for 2.00 a yard (about 2,000,000 yards) then he opened it up as a dump and charged 2.00 a load to dump. After that he covered it all up and opened a flee market and it is now (I think) the second bigest flee market in the state of Florida. Of course this was before all the regulations started. Now you have to jump through all kinds of hoops just to cut down a tree.
