    Scrapping 1950s City Bus

    Hello,

I am thinking about scrapping a 1950s city bus. I was just wondering if the time involved would be worth the money I could make. Can somebody give me a "ballpark" estimate of what you think I will earn scrapping this bus? I would appreciate any and all answers/comments. Thank you.

A picture of the style of bus can be found here:

    Thanks again,

    Smokey

I would love to scrap something like that. The only issues I would have is how to clear out the tires, glass, rubber, and plastic left over from items such as floor covering, seats, and dash console. Also, any fluids that are still left in the bus would be a bit of a pain due to the environment protection laws. Tranny fluid, oil, brake fluid, radiator coolant and others would most likely require a special disposal I am thinking.

Couldn't give you a ballpark, but I would be sure there is alot of aluminum (even though it takes a lot to make money) from the windows and engine. The wiring would help boost price as well as a few other items I am sure.

If it runs, sell it as a whole to a collector or even put an ad on craigslist or in the newspaper. Someone out there would pay big $$ for it. You could scrap it, but you won't get nearly as much as if you sell it.

The bus does not run and has been sitting in the woods for over 25 years. The inside is in bad shape, but not horrible as the seats are still decent and could probably be sold. It has aluminum all the way around the outside and still has some chrome as well. Some of the glass is still good and may be able to be sold.

I am just curious if the metal alone on thing bus could bring a few thousand dollars. If so, I am going to go ahead and scrap it.

The cool thing about the inside of this bus is that it is full of old books, tools, games.... you name it. The previous owners of this land were hoarders and the bus just may have a few treasures inside.

Most of it would be Aluminum Sheet - not really worth much in my opinion (around here 0.40/lb prepared (2'x3')), compared to the effort it would take to scrap it. I'd say either haul it up and sell it intact or sell it on Craig's List, Ebay or similar. You might try finding out how much it weighs and call the yard to see what they'd give you for it. Being chrome won't get you anywhere as you'll get the price of the iron underneath.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
