What is this UPS part?

What is the circular thing to the right and is it safe to open? I assume transformer coil but not sure. The middle has a hard substance with a tube in the middle and a screw was holding it from both sides. Is there a good way to disassemble this? Is it safe? I dont want to cut or chop into this thing if there is a chance it is hazardous. Thanks.

It is a transformer coil. If you took the batteries out you should be ok to start snipping and tearing it apart I would think.

So is the stuff in the middle toxic in any way? It is very solid and looks almost like ceramic or glass. I have never seen one like this in an UPS.

Nope, that is not everything I want to know. I don't see mention in your link of whether or not it is hazardous. If anyone knows how or if I even can safely take that thing apart let me know.

Maybe try Googling something like "Is Ferrite Hazardous?" instead of acting like a entitled little prick expecting others to answer every stupid question you might have.

But to answer you question yes it is very hazardous and should be encased in concrete and disposed of at a site that handles radio active nuclear waste.

Ok, take a deep breath and count to 10 unless you want to be put on "Taking a vacation" status by the admin. My advice, whether you want it or not, would be to post a spoon fed baby meme or something else that won't get you banned.

The OP is not asking about the ferrite, he's concerned about the substance that is melted and poured into the center of the component that holds the metal tube used for mounting it.

To the OP. I've seen a handful of these since I started scrapping and removed the core once to get to the copper. I don't know what it's made of but it was a PITA to take apart and not worth it to me. The few I get now go in the shred pile.

If I don't know what something is I'll ask here or google it. If I can't find an answer, I throw it in the shred pile and move on.

You can google How toroidal transformers are made. There are some videos showing how they are made but I didn't see the part where they pour the center for the mounting tube.

This was meant to point you in the right direction........from this page there are many links which tell about this type of material.........Honestly what one person considers hazardous others may not......There are people on here that work with chemicals, heavy machinery, large scrap, small scrap, ewaste, refrigerant, etc etc and so on and so forth...........All can be hazardous to your health if not handled properly.........This item is the same thing.........it is fairly easy to take apart but can be very time consuming if done by hand......Oh well back into my shell I will go and try not to stir the pot

It's a T-600 transformer coil ( 2,000 watt ) manufactured by ZeroZone. Used in amplifiers and power supplies.

If you are that worried about it, just leave it alone. The tiny bit of copper in it probably isn’t worth your time. Sell it whole for the best price you can find and take your freed up time to find more scrap.

I see the natives are restless....it is not really dangerous unless eaten or inhaled in large quanity....if anyone can think of any other reason it would be dangerous let me know ty

Thanks to those who posted civil comments, I will just get rid of it. I am new to scrapping and just wanted to know from the experienced members if I should mess with it. The consensus seems to be it's not worth it. Fair bit of hostility in this place, noobs have to take their knocks I guess.
