SCRAP Auction HELP!

Hey guys I've been lurking through this forum for weeks now. This is my first post. I've learned a lot of valuable information from this forum. I fairly new in the scrap business and I was wondering if you guys could help me out with an auction I will be placing a bid on. Umm I have taken the pics of the scrap lots. I have them saved on my laptop and would love to pm it to anyone interested in helping me out. I would've loved to post it here but I do not have a url link for the images. Anywho, the scrap consists of a lot of copper wire, GI scrap, Used car and inverter Batteries, Water pump motors and steel angle racks. If anyone can get back to me I will be more than happy to e-mail them the pics and seek their wise advise Thanks.

you'll probably do best to use the usual methods of posting pics to a hosting site. imgbox.com works well, and you can post there anonomously, or register and keep the pics posted there together in your account(still free and easy) Then you'll only need a few more posts on the forum to have enough for links access. That's easy enough too, by making an introductory post, and a few hellos etc.

Most anyone who doesn't know you better will likely be hesitant to go downloading photos of unknown origin, due to the numerous risks associated with such files ; )

The copper wires, water motor and the batteries are to be bid on as a whole lot, where as GI scrap and the iron angle racks are to be big on per kg basis. My question is this the weight of the lots are not mentioned, I tried asking the man who puts up the scrap for sale every 6 months and he did not have an idea about the weight either. Now with the copper wires by looking at the pic, if you guys had to guess the weight how much would you think it is? And how much copper would it yield? Same weight question for all of the other items as well and which item do you guys think will yield the most profit. I am not placing a bid on the pumpset, the ms scrap, the tire scrap, monitors and the aluminum scrap..do you guys think I should? Appreciate all he help. THANKS!

angles and squares can usually be determined by calculating widthXthicknessXlength etc. If you can view them up close and get some measurements on a small scale, then figure the weights there, and multiple that by the total, you might be able to get a "ball-park" figure. Don't forget the work you'll have to do to dismantle and move all that stuff.
Also, don't forget you're in an "emerging economy" there, and resale value may greatly exceed scrap prices, If you can place the stuff ; )

Thanks. I managed to get some information out of the auctioneer He said 6 months ago approximately the same size wiring lot went for $ 1000 U.S. You think that's a good price by looking at the pic? I know batteries have a lot of led in it, this would be much easier if they had given me the weight

tinypic is too busy trying to load their junk to load the pictures so i can't help ya there. All I could say then is revert to what you know, what you know is there, what it's gonna cost ya, and what you know you can get ; )

Really? They contain a lot of lead inside of it.

That's one of the reasons they shouldn't be stored on the ground.

Not sure where they're coming from, but after time, especially on the ground, they'll deteriorate and begin to crack, emptying the acid onto(and into) the ground. I've seen some that were hardly recognizable, with only some deteriorated lead left

Yes, like Bear said, it's environmentally bad because of the possibility of lead and acid polluting the ground, groundwater, and runoff if it rains.

Lead "leaches" into the ground and will "flow" with the groundwater into streams, rivers and lakes. If it leaches into wells or other water supplies, they will become unusable for the foresee-able future (many years). In the US, this could lead to BIG fines by the Environmental Protection Agency. Batteries should be stored on pallets, under cover and on a concrete base with a built-up barrier around the base. In Maine, this is a nasty issue and DOES result in lawsuits as 90% of the state is on private dug wells. When a well goes bad because of a neighbor's action (the same result can come from a winter salt pile), the result is not a friendly discussion over barbequed chicken.
