    AL price???

I took in some AL extrusion and a little AL sheet today. The guy told me that they only have 2 classifications for aluminum. Clean & dirty. Does this sound right? I guess it'll save me the sorting process!

my yard will do: cast, extruded, sheet, dirty and there's a pretty big spread on the price difference. I got 55cents for cast, 60cents for extruded, and 30 cents for dirty, I think sheet was at 47cents

No!! extruded has always paid more than sheet and cast. Sheet and cast has been paying the same lately but it still needs to be sorted.

I was wondering what that was all about, especially when the guy kinda chuckled and smiled when he told me that.

They are making a killing off of you if they are only classifying aluminum into clean and dirty categories. I suggest shopping it around and see what you can get.

Reading this thread makes me think about what changes forums like this bring about. Either Jermscrap's yard is going to make some changes or he starts looking around for another yard and that one loses a some business. Pretty soon, they look around and say "What happened?".
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

A good scale operator can tell if the person knows what they are doing as far as sorting out their aluminum. Depending on if your a regular or know your different grades of aluminum will determine if you get paid a better price for the better grades.

If a person comes in and starts piling everything they have together as clean aluminum and seems clueless about what exactly they have as far as what grade the aluminum is, then the scale operator is not going to separate the different grades of aluminum for them to pay them more. That person will get paid the lowest clean aluminum price which is usually old sheet or old cast.

If you come into the yard and you have your bare 6063 extrusion, painted extrusion, painted siding, aluminum rims, old sheet and old cast properly cleaned and sorted (before you get there) than you will likely get paid a different price for each different grade. If not, I would be looking for a different yard to sell your aluminum too.

It's just like if you come in to the yard with #2 copper mixed in with #1 copper. You will get paid #2 price.

I took in some extruded aluminum yesterday and they were paying $0.65 a pound. Sheet aluminum was only paying $0.50.
