    Vintage Computer Resale?

Co-Worker gave me a X-mas gift today. Small box full of old computer boards he has had sitting in his garage. A few motherboards, video cards, things of that nature. And some things that were completely new to me, like the "Compuadd High Speed Memory Board" in the top of the picture. I've read on the forum that some items are worth well over scrap value to the vintage computer market. Just wondering if anyone on here deals with that stuff and how I might approach it. Beings how im not positive they work? Thanks

Welcome to the forum MLR but I think (my 2 cents) you gotta poke around here a bit to show that you are not afraid of a little digg'n into a real treasure box. You've come to the right place now get comfy and check out some of the links that go to things you need to know about. Then, after a wee bit you can let us know how you are doing or what's what etc. Anywho, besides all that, have yourself a very Merry Christmas and nice to see a Florida guy 'cause I'm from W-A-Y up north from you and we're sitt'n in a passle of snow up in here. lb

The pictures aren't really clear enough to gather much info from, the center one is a Viper video card, and i think i can read a 1988 on the memory expansion board. You might get offered "better than scrap", but it won't likely be by much, nor will it happily cover packing, shipping, etc. You'll do best to research them well, and list on ebay. Properly described and listed there is where you'll get your best offers, even if it includes "untested"

Indeed the memory expansion board is dated 1988, and the other is a Viper Video card from 94. Looking around online I've found a number of the Memory Boards in store from between $100 and $177. Question I have is how long do they have to hold them before someone stumbles upon the sight wanting one. And If I have to sell it as "untested" what % would I be looking for of a working pull piece. As I tend to not be one for patience I think it will end up going in a pile with everything else =)

I'd put it on a ten day auction and start at 9.99. If you start the listing friday around 1pm pacific(4pm eastern), you'll get two weekends and a full week for folks to find it. Use the scheduled listing approach, and get the listing completed at least two hours before its scheduled start. Be sure to use every available space in the title describing exactly what it is (i.e. board name, number, brand), anything that might be used to describe the particular item, as well as any that will fit which may be used in a search(such as old, vintage, etc). don't waste a single space in your title, or leave one empty. Words such as "LQQKY HERE NOW!! will never be used in a search ; ) Just be very direct and up front with it. I'd even note it came from a collector who wanted you to do something with them, that they were working pulls, which you can be fairly certain they were, but you have noway to test them and are listing them as is.
I'd also recommend trying to get some clearer photos if at all possible, I'd guess photos are just about 50%(if not more) of your sale

the 88 memory bank would definitely be worth listing, but you'll need to research the board a good bit to find exactly where it came from and what it went to if possible.
can't say for certain on the 94

On ebay you can check "completed listings" by pushing the advanced button and selecting completed listings and then press search. This will you what that item has in fact sold for. Mike

That's true, IF one similar has sold within the last 30 days. Harder to find things won't usually be listed that often though, leaving about the best option as a ten day go for it auction, and hoping your listing title and description garners the bids necessary to carry it to a successful auction, instead of it being a dud
With things you don't see on there every day it's pretty much trial and error, hit and miss. That's why the title becomes so important for this type stuff, and the rest can sometimes just be hit and miss, hoping the timing is right
