I just kind of stumbled onto this thread looking for some thing else and figured i would help / stop some one from making a very costly mistake...
Don't even think of scrapping a boat lol !!! Landfills will refuse to take them unless completely stripped of all marine grade paint. Even then they will still most likely refuse them. The paint is in a lot of cases lead based and is always highly toxic, it's designed to be. The disposal fees alone for the stripped off paint would put you in the hole. You can walk any marina in Florida and you will find plenty of abandoned yachts that the harbor masters will literally give you ! The reason no one takes them... you are talking about $1000's to dispose of them or $100,000's to fix them up. Typically they are gutted and the hulls illegally scuttled or sit for years in dry dock some where. It's sad but that's the reality of old boats.
