My father-in-law's '95 Food Explorer died. RIP!

How can I maximize value in 30 days or less by scrap / part out?

What are the easiest items to part off of it. 300,000+ miles V-6 4x4. Bad engine, bad transmission.

Scrap with battery, cat and alloy wheels was quoted at $8.50 / hundred at the local yard. Google said "curb weight" is approximately 3,500 lbs - so that would be about $300. Probably around $6/hundred stripped - so about $210.

Anyone have an estimate on the value of that cat?

And I can get it to scrap yard at no cost.

I am an e-scrap guy... so this isn't my turf. Any help is greatly appreciated.

How are the tires on it? Explorers should use 235/75/15's. If they're good, you could probably get up to $50/Tire. Pull the grille, taillamps, and other trim pieces. They're small, easy to keep, and can get you a couple of bucks. If it has the factory radio, take photos of it working, and put it on eBay. You should be able to get $30-40 for it if it's in good shape.

Then, take photos and place it on Craigslist, Facebook, and other places for parts. When I got rid of my box van, someone purchased the hood and one fender for $125. There's half of your scrap value right there, and you still have a lot of the truck left.

I have been driving a 95 Explorer for over 3 and a half years now and I'm surprised it still works as they have so many problems with the electrical systems.

When it rains or is very humid the vehicle beeps code that don't make sense as I looked up the code beeps and it seems that my "beeper" is a bit confused,lol.

Part of the problem with that is that the fuse box is near the door and the weather stripping leaks enough for moisture to get inside and get things beeping. It comes and goes with the weather.

If it has a newer replacement fuel pump that is in very good condition that might sell for a easy $50.00 or so as I paid over $150.00 for a quality replacement pump at a parts store. Ford wanted hundreds for a pump.

There should be many small parts that might be newer replacements and worth something. I read that there are problems with the dash instrument panel and that a working one can be in demand.

Problem with the Ford Explorer line from these model years is that they are VERY problem prone because of their wiring harnesses and electronics.

I'm surprised that mine still goes down the road. Getting close to 200,000 miles on it. It was originally from the U.S. Air Force vehicle fleet.

Explorer had to be parked as it has so many electrical issues that it's time to part it.

I put 29014 miles on it in about 9 years.

The engine and tranny are still working, as well as it had the 4x4 in the front done just before I bought it.

I also got my tire value as it had new Goodyear wranglers on it when I started.
