    Those that haul cars...does this weight seem right?

    I picked up my first vehicle a week ago.

    After stripping off the radiator, oil cooler, alum trim, starter, alt, and rear axle I hauled it in.

    Weight came to 2,420 for a 1970 Ford F100 longbed.



    This is after removing the aforementioned, plus the steering wheel/column, rear window, front bumper, seat and tailgate were missing when I got it.


    Seems like an old truck would weigh more, but who knows. I can't locate a curb weight for this truck. Door tag wasn't helpful.

    that does seem alittle low but you did take alot of stuff off of it.

    That truck should have been around 3500# complete if it was a 2wd. I'd say 2400# is about correct with the items that were stripped they shed wieght fast. The 4wd older trucks are the ones that really have the wieght.

    3500 lbs i dont think a f-100 will weigh that much

    I use a site called oldride.com its always been pretty close for me. I don't have to remove tires or fluids just fuel and put a large hole in the tank. Not trying to argue just trying to help.

    IdahoScrapper, where did you drop it off at?

    I'm also in Idaho. I know that TVM absolutely SCREWS people on their weight. Sounds like a TVM job.

    Well crap...TVM is where I took it, only because they claimed to pay out $200/ton. More than North American and Pacific.

    Ever since that day, I have wondered if I would have made more at the lesser paying, only because the scales would be correct. Assuming the aforementioned yards are on the up and up.

    Hi guys, don't know about your state but here in Indiana their scale better have a current state inspection sticker prominently displayed where you can see it, because they buy and sell by that scale. Like I told someone on another post, take your vehicle(your hauler and trailer) to a grain elevator and have it weighed on their certified scale then you will know for sure who is $crewing you and how hard.     The TVM in Nampa is a drug running yard. When you look at their main sign by the road it has "M.O.B" and "I.S.G" tagged on it in spray paint. "M.O.B." Stands for "men of business". After talking to many Nampa PD, whenever a place is tagged with MOB, it means that a LOT of money is being laundered for drugs/crime. Nampa PD is well aware of what goes on there. They've been building up a case on them for over a year.

    If you can avoid any TVM, do it.

    By the way, last i checked, Pacific Recycling in Nampa is paying $300 minimum, up to $700 for vehicles.

    Their needs to be a scrap yard in Meridian! It would cut down my travel expenses by a LOT!

    You could always start it. I'm sure there are other scrappers thinking the same thing around you. Offer less than you yard you travel to, and ta-da. Instant money.

    I think that's for complete cars. This wasn't, though I should have asked what constitutes "complete".

    I'll be steering clear of TVM from now on. Thanks for the heads up.

    My 72 F250 with a big block 360 was about 4100 across the scales with fluids and battery in it...subtract the heavier wheels, springs, axle etc and I guess 3500 or so sounds right for an f100
