This one is going to kill me to see it squished. Have it up on CL as a part-out because the body and interior is STELLAR. Apparently, the son-in-law took it for a drive and I quote "Heard a knocking.. it died.. I started it back up and had to have my foot on the gas to keep it running.. the knocking got really loud.. but I somehow made it home"
I picked it up from the owner at a Chevy dealership- they said one rod was broken and 2 were bent- so 3 of 4 were ruined. The engine only had 75,000 miles on it- Jr must have beat the crap out of it on his drive!

I had a similar thing happen. I was told the rods were out, but the case was not broken. I checked the oil, none. Filled it with oil and a can of sea foam into the gas. Ran perfect. I put sea foam in all of my machinery to clean the injectors and prepare engines for storage. I am a big believer. According to a local mechanic, it was not the rods, it was the lack of compression that made it sound like the rods were out. It was an 79 LTD that I bought for $ 100 and sold it for $ 600. Maybe you will be as lucky as I was. Just a thought.

Well the plugs are out from the dealership- oil looks DIIIIRTY! May give that a shot though. Easy like pie to put the plugs back in and see if she fires up. THANKS for the tip. I'll let ya know if she starts up!!

That would be a great car with an engine swap. Very nice looking car.

In The Boston Ma area, BIG storm coming in today thru tomorrow
I started the day bring the 1992 Lexus to the squisher. I was hoping to beat the snow and was there when they opened the gate at 7
    Snow was with me
    1992 92 Lexus LS 400 Base V8 4 0 L DOHC Engine Auto Trans | eBay
Went home to disconnect the trailer and load the 2K pound counter weight and plow
Just as I started doing that got a call for a 1994 Mercedes C Class, so I went and got that for $400.00
disconnect the trailer and get ready to load the 2K pound counter weight and plow and get a call from a E250 extended van (POS) with broken tie rod parked on the street
That town was putting a parking ban in effect at 5PM, so he needed it gone >> I gave him $400.00
That is still on the trailer and I finally, about 3PM, got the counter weight and plow on the truck
Taking a nap >> Going out to start about 3AM

Truck converted from towing to plowing and ready to go >> Time from a nap

    Nice Haul John.

Well, I've had quite a bit of interest in the Cavalier as a whole. Yep.. people wanting to do an engine swap. Thus far the car is untouched, so it is still all intact. Be glad to sell it off whole instead of parting the thing out. Crossing fingers.

We got 6" here (Which to me isn't SQUAT) but since I live in a place that PANICS when snow arrives and they can't move snow worth a dittle.. it may impeded some sale time. On another good note- my client said that his son wrecked his car over the weekend.. caused a 4 car accident and totaled the ZX2.. so that may be the next donor car on the trailer! Whoop!

Haha..you think where you are they can't handle snow..an you get it all the time! Try being on the sandbar when we get some, they gotta bring plows in from Va..LOL. It's hilarious.

People see snow or rain, an just become stupid. Seriously stupid. Cracker Jacks should ask for all those licenses back.

Glad to hear the Cavalier is getting interest there Sledge, they are still rather popular little cars.

Back to electron guns an screw drivers. ha!

My sister used to live in VA for a while (Early to mid 90's).. she said they close things when it rained too hard.. and snow- they FREAK! Shuts down cities. She used to live in Newport News? if I remember correctly. Her husband was in the military and stationed down there.

I hauled in my sisters 00 dodge caravan for her.

Scored a 2000 Hyundai Accent that died because the serpentine belt went and the battery died.. they didn't want to put any more money into it and it had just had an inspection done.. so I sent that one to my buddies shop for and evaluation / fix / communter. Then Got a 1996 Honda Accord.. its currently waiting to get stripped and smooched by the crusher tomorrow..

JohnC - how much did you want for those rims & tires? =P I'm sure you saved them or they are already sold. I was also curious what are you getting per ton their for incomplete vehicles? It seems you're offering people a decent amount for their cars, I wonder if its profitable for me to start running a truck load down that way instead of sending them all into the local shredder.

EDIT // Sweet truck! Thats sort of my goal this year - something big and powerful I can mutli-task with ^_^

Your Sis wasn't lying Sledge. I'm from there originally, an it's true. They'll shut down schools, or delay them, with just the chance of snow. They've gotten better but they still shut stuff down. I got family still there an my sister in law works in DC for the GSA, it's amusing when she starts ranting on FB about them shutting down cause of a inch of snow. lol It's dc tho, whatcha expect from a bunch fat cat politicians an lawyers.

Edit : Just saw you mentioned she lived in Newport News, I was in Northern Va, right outside DC. Newport News is bout 2 hours to my sandbar. An yes, that whole area is big with military. Newport, Hampton Roads, Norfolk ( Want to see some cool ships..that's the spot!), Va beach area, all big with the military. Whether for the base(s?), living off base, or just plain partying. Heh.

Sirscrapalot - Can drive in snow, rain, ice, hurricanes, and blizzards.

Most of the Caravan's have the Cat's that are hard to get
I have found easiest way is to reach in with the blue wrench between the engine and firewall and snip the 4 bolts

We were busy yesterday so I still have all rims seen in the photos.
If you are talking about the Lex with the low profile tires >> They are trash, Rims and tires

Currently getting $200.00 per 2000# ton
    Or 10 Cents a pound
$200 always makes the math easy!

Yup! They are hard to get - I find the easiest way (didn't figure this out until recently) is to make one cut after the last 02 sensor - wrap a chain a couple times around before the 02 bung and hook it up to the 4x4 give it a couple tugs and they come out. I was letting them go until the yard owner was giving me ish about not grabbing pre-cats - he said he just snaps em off with the loader forks and then the gears started spinning.. Its not easy on the truck/equipment to get them - but they add up quickly

$200 is what I'm getting juts about - weird I guess I never realized how well the guy up here takes care of us!

    Sad Update:
After many calls of folks wanting the car for a motor swap with no one coming through, few no shows and a ton of lowballers. Started gutting this one today. Makes me sick.. but I have another one I have to pick up as soon as this one is off the trailer. She has got to go.

I need a better formula. I get these decent cars- and have this crazy idea that people actually want them.. best just to buy for scrap price as I do- chuck the ad up- no sell in 24-48 hours- gut and move on.. no matter how nice it is or "could be"

Don't get beat down, you will be surprised the ones people want. As long as you buy them less than scrap that's all that matters, but you hit it on the head, you can't buy the next one till that ones gone.

I can identify with Sledge about getting the "crazy idea that people actually want them". I drove a 99 Caravan as a runner around the farm/town etc and then the tranny went south. It was decent and had a good engine so I told a few people about it for parts and had a couple "DEFINITELY" wanting it but haven't seen any money for 2 months plus I'd need to deliver it about 100 miles. I think I'll just scrap it as iron is about as high as it's been in a long time......and keep my mouth shut next time.

The next one is cool.. it is my client.. his son wrecked his car and I'm going to pick it up, gut it and split the $ 50/50 with him without any outlay of cash on my part. Seems like a good win-win.. and that way I don't have to offer him $200 bucks and have him think that maybe I "got one over on him" I told him point blank that I would prefer we do it this way.. never want to put a seed of doubt into the man who has been so very good to me.. and continues to pay my invoices!
