    Help Scrapping out 2 Cars

    a) Never done this before....
    b) Closest thing I have done I letting a car set out back and pull parts
    c) I have been selling Saturn Parts online for a bit.....
    d) Tools- 2 Dewalt Drills, 1 Dewalt 3/8 impact, 1 Dewalt (DW059K) 1/2 impact, most of your general Junkyarding tools... not many specialty
    e) No Full size car trailer, have been using dolly (long distances) & tow strap (short distances)
    d) I have been told by my father that the Saturn Must be gone by Beginning of the year (he does not know about the Ford yet....)
    d) The cars

    2002 Saturn SC2
No Engine, Trans, Rims, Battery, or Rear Bumper
    Curb Weight- 2,436 Pounds

I went over and bought this car, knowing it would be worth it via my Saturn Parts Knowledge- (Panels, Steering Wheel, Seats, PCM,.... extra)

    Invested:
    Time- 3 hours Getting Car
Time- 1.5 Hours Getting Tires from Junkyard (Had to get rims/tires)
    Money- $60 Gas
    Money- $50 Dolly Rental
    Money- $250 Car
    Money- $40 2 Tires/Rims at Junkyard

I plan on grabbing (to sell... whole reason I bought the car):
Panels, Doors, Steering Wheel, Seats, ECM, PCM, Cluster, Radio, Airbags, E-brake, shifting cables, lights, Sub-frames and others.....

I am going to have to have JY haul off the caucus.... (they will pay for it just not as good as if you bring it in....)

    Scrap wise:
    (has a plastic radiator)
    CAT
    o2 sensors (reading from here)
As much of wiring harness as possible.... Dirty Copper

    What else should I grab?

1997 Ford Tausus GL Station Wagon
    Blown Head Gasket
    Curb Weight- 3505 Pounds
    3.0 Liter V6 w/SFI

Friends Car..... They broke down on Toll Road.... Had to tow it back to my place and let it set.... They found out Blown Head Gasket and now wanting to sell it for scrap....

I told them I would pay them Scrap weight for it as if they run it across the scales

I said curb weight X Scrap price- Is this how you normally determine the true scrap weight of the car.... (I know that often some yards are minus a bit) what would you give for True Scrap Weight (Like I said I'm doing this for a friend to help her out)

I plan on grabbing (to sell and make additional money of the Scrap Weight of the Car):
Tires (brand new), ECM, PCM, Cluster, Radio, Airbags, and anything that I can sell on Craigslist.....

    Scrap wise:
    Radiator
    CAT
    Alternator, Starter, AC motor
    o2 sensors (reading from here)
As much of wiring harness as possible.... Dirty Copper

On this car I'm not as worried about stripping it completely and setting on parts.... I would like the quickest most efficient way to make $$$ on this car.

    Thanks for your help

    Battery and cables.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Theres no way that saturn has an all plastic rad. The sides are probably plastic but the fins and such need to be aluminum. Im in the middle of doin an A/C course for my apprenticeship so i literally just learned all this. Sounds like your off to a pretty good start though. Take aluminum rims as well if you are able to.

Edit: you over payed for that saturn as well IMO. Id never pay more than 200 for something like that. BUT thats just me. if you can sell parts then you might be ok. But at a curb weight of 2500lbs minus the motor, trans, etc your lookin at maybe 1500lbs of weight. Panels are all plastic.

I paid $250 for a Saturn once.. I knew it was higher than I should have paid- but since it ran.. turned it- even with its issues it had the very next day for double my $. But I won't make the mistake again of paying $250 for one. The parts angle is good though- if he knows how to part em out, who buys what and for how much.. he'll do just fine.

Those look like saturn vue rims as well. I'd pull them- NOT cut the tires and try to CL the rims as is- you'll make a bunch more off of them as a set on CL than cutting the tires off and scrapping the aluminum!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

I did not get the Rims.... Thus why I bought the 2 steel rims outa the Junkyard (went on rear)..... & took 2 dummy tires with me (went on front)

NOPE My deal is that I know the parts to grab and so forth from this car..... heck I was looking at buying just a majority of the parts (guy quoted me $110) but then i decided instead of being nickled and dimed I would have the whole car...... I have all ready made my money off a few parts if I drag the car across the scales...... So now.... lets rake in the money .....

And yep doing just fine heck in regards to parts.... I have an Ion, Vue, S-Series, & L-Series Factory Parts Catalog for selling parts online (this is my 1st full part out.... recently I've just been pillaging any Junkyard I can get into for Saturn Parts (I pick clean of anything I can sell), My local guys even sometimes joke with me- We crushed all Saturns, nothing out there for you (that's all I pull off of basically)

Nope..... Vue Rims have a 5-115 Bolt Pattern (if they were these)
    A) Someone would have mad-skills
B)I would steal them for my own
They are Ion Rims (same bolt pattern 4-100 as the S-series)
Sadly I did not get them with the car though... would loved to because tires were almost brand new

Flipping them? There's bits and pieces (like needing whole engine/trans, plus when he cut out the engine other stuff got cut) that for me makes it a ehh.... Parts Car...... I would love to save her, but with $$$ and time wise I can't really do that right now. When I'm out on my own, I hope to be able to flip just "a few" Saturns

I'm sorry I can't deface a Saturn like that.... having lowering springs can make some Saturns look amazing, but what I'm picturing from you is like "stancing"

Yes most people call them turds..... But well I grew up on Saturn, 1st car I remember was a 95 White SL1,

Family Saturn List: 95 White SL1 (sold at 185k), 98 Gold SL1 (365k, number of CRAZY ACCIDENTS and still kicking), 03 Silver Vue (totaled at 165k, saved my life), 08 Gold Outlook (95k, alive and kicking), 98 Black SL2 (125K RIP, totaled), 96 Maroon SW2 (114k, Sold Autotragic), 98 Green SW2 (160k, Sold Autotragic), 05 Vue (115k, Alive and kicking)...

    Yeah I like saturns

Well I know who to call if I ever do have another come across my trailer. I assume since you said "Toll Road" that you are up near the North End of the state? Gary area maybe?
I have access to a yard where parts can be had cheap. Not sure if there are any Saturns there presently, but if you want to have a conversation about parts. I can be your central Indiana part picker if you want access to more parts than just your local area!
PM me and we can discuss!

South Bend- Valpo area..... I go high and low looking for parts (or if I'm in area) ..... Recent Picks (out of Junkyard) - Valpo, South Bend, Fort Wayne, Chicago, Detroit, Ann Arbor, Kokomo (kinda of).... yeah I get around.... when I go any place... Tools COME and i normally pull off Craigslist (like buying nice headlamps for $20 for both) & any treasures that I can find in the Junkyard.....

This coming Month I am planning on going to Fort Wayne, South Bend, Chicago, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, Holland, and maybe a few others :P

So to be honest I have no issue coming down that way if the pickins right and doing it myself

The radiator has a Plastic Top and I believe bottom but the main part is still aluminum, the cat should be a high value from what I reseached. The exhaust is Stainless on a saturn.
Scrap Yards call me crazy when I pull up with a ton of steel in my Saturn sl2.....

Saturn doesn't weigh much. Lots of fiber glass body parts seems like. But am curious as to how much did u net profit from it?

flip it over and drag it

What I would say is start saving some of the money you make from parting cars and harvesting junk yards so you can buy a car trailer. It will be money well spent if you start doing this more and more. You could even get insured to transport cars for people.

If only a shell left then cut it into manageable pieces and haul it in that way.

Walmart sells an electric winch for about $75 , borrow a flat bed trailer and off you go!!
