    Scrapping 2000 Montana

I blew the motor in my scrapping van so it now becomes a scrap project.

I removed all the cast aluminum i could find.

I also pulled the wire harnessses inside and out. my lord there's alot of wire in a van

    all AC lines removed.

    Cat.

Both rads and the 2 heater cores.

Dash ripped out for insterment panel, radio, and controls.

found a pile of misc. electronic boards.

Starter alt P.S. brake, AC pump. all for cores.

    Well i basically chopped it

Block needs a little more work and tranny needs pulling.

I must be nuts, but i'm having a blast sorting it out.

    Anyone else go this far?

After X-mas i'll take a trip to the yard for prices, then pay off some x-mas bills.

I figured i have time and a junk van so why not.

Anyway i do have a question.

The connetcor on the wire harness, are they really Paladium coated or junk. I heard both. this one has me wondering, keep or throw.

    Sorry for rambling

    Dave.

Dave I'm not sure but if it's connected to wire it has value, but the plug-ins to the computer should be gold plated brass.

i go further than that on a typical tear down. I strip the interior clean out and pull the main wiring harness thats under the carpet in the interior as i can get $200-$300 for it. The ac lines usually go for $60 so dont cut them up for scrap aluminum. I could go on and on. I dont think the pins in the connectors on the wiring harness are palladium plated, but i do not know for sure. Someone will buy your used wheels and tires for alot more than scrap value as long as there alloy wheels and the tires still have tread on them, if its steel wheels there has to be tread on the tires otherwise leave them on the car.. Dont forget to pull the gas tank and get the gas out of it. The fuel pump will sell for $50-$70.
I buy and sell all types of scrap and escrap. I buy specialty and hard to sell escrap. I buy resale items. PM me or contact me at jghilino@hotmail.com
I AM ACTIVELY BUYING ESCRAP OF ALL TYPES. BOARDS, RAM, CPUS AND MUCH MORE

Ha, how timely this thread came up! I was just talking about this the other day with the wife, if my van goes, I'ma be chopping that SOB up. We've been talking about getting another since the current one is getting old and to the point it ain't worth putting the money into it anymore.

Called 2 yards today, 140 per metric tonne if i drive it in. leave fluids in. I think this is low, am i correct?

1 say's strip it and sell body. same price without everything, as it is with.

1 say's leave it i won't get anymore for it if i strip it. lol

got quotes on cast alum, copper, elec. motors, and a few other prices. was shocked on how low it is right now.

Guess i holding out for a bit.

Is that $140 Canadian? Not that it matters, the currency pairs are nearly in parity anyways. So that is $138/ton U.S. Yes that is extremely low. Our crappiest paying yard around here was just at $140/ton a month ago and with the slight bump about 3 weeks ago out of the Detroit mills, even the worst yard around is paying $180/ton. I'd hang tight until Jan or Feb, but March- prices tend to slide again for a bit, so I would see how your rates are in Jan and Feb and pounce then if possible!

I'm going to wait until at least Jan. to sell.

I have a bit more to remove yet so i have time.

Think i'll throw the front panles and doors on KIjiji, to see if they'll sell, before i send it.

Also the tranny and a couple other parts.

Now to figure out some prices to get ride of them fast, but make money at the same time.

You need to check the part prices before you just scrap an entire car, theres usually parts there worth pulling.
