    Does anyone know how much a 250kw onan / allis chalmers diesel generator might weigh?

    i could only find a weight on one website and it said around 8,000 lbs. normally we would cut it up and take it in but this thing is a monster im thinking about renting a flatbed if it is 8,000 it would be worth it. The cooling coil and somekind of box with all the controls has been removed but they probobly werent any more then 500 lbs
    would really like to get the alternator of this thing cus its huge but idk how much of a fight it will be.

    You might be surprised what you can sell the thing for if you got the diesel engine running......PM sent.

    Unless the engine is seized, you have a pretty good chance of selling as is for more than scrap.

    This is not a generator but it might as well be. I sold it for $6,000. Guy wanted it for engine and transmission

    I buy old non running diesel "junk". It a gamble on it they will run or not. So if you all find any stuff like this, and want to contact me, please do. I am a full fledge dieselhead junkie.

    No, was a John Deere diesel, in running condition. Drilling outfit in Alberta bought it.

    i was excited about scrapping this thing and making maybe 7-800$ now youall are making me want to go load it up, drop it in my backyard and lock a couple chains to it

    It's sort of what I told decjr in a PM. Although with the control box all beat up and with it flipped over, the unit is probably inoperable. That's been my past experience. The diesel engine might be worth some money if you can get it running. If it's not locked up, I might be game to purchase it.

    im trying to research this thing im not having much luck i guess i gotta flip it over and see if i can get any more info off the motor.

    Anything diesel is no joke....you can find your self a good bit of money.

    Even diesel cars/trucks are worth alot of money if you can get them cheap. Just parting a none-running truck can make over 6grand.

    A working motor out of a ford truck (7.3 turbo diesel) can bring as much as 5 to 6grand. Non-running I have seen them sell for 1,000 to 1,500 cash if not more.

    Diesel = big money

    Diesels = never die...repair an the sucker will run for ages!!

    Send me a pic, my buddy is a journey man heavy duty mechanic and he will tell you where to look and what numbers to use, need to know what engine it is and a pic of it would help

    The govenor, rotory injection pump, crankshaft if are still in good condition are worth big money. Chances are the engine went boom, so the crank probably is not any good, but I bet the generator head is ok or could probably be repaired easily, there is not much to go wrong with them, wires usually just break. Advertise it, or call a heavy duty wrecker yard and see what they would give you for a CORE engine.

    i was planning on selling the starter, injection pump, injectors and maybe a few other parts on ebay. I think it could be that the generator overheated or burned out? i noticed some plastic inside that looked like it got to hot had spots on it that started to melt, im not knowledgeable on this subject just a guess. havent had a chance to see if the motor is siezed yet or not hopefully ill get it all done soon. Im gonna contact a local shop that works on heavy equipment and diesel engines this week to see if they or anyone they know might be interested in buying it.

    I took a seized engine one time and added diesel fuel(about a small glass full) to each cylinder. Came back next day and put a large breaker bar on the crank pulley and started trying to move it. Every day it would move just a little more than last time. Finally after about a week and a half I had it rotating. Fresh gas and 2 batteries and after about a half hour it was running. It did smoke a little(probably the rust in the cylinders) but a small block chevy is hard to kill.
