    Seeking info on Gaylord Boxes

So I've heard a lot about these gaylord boxes. I know what they are because we used them at a PCB manufacturer I used to work at. My questions are more related to the how to's.

First, once I get a gaylord box full, packed, and strapped...is a forklift the only way to move it? Do I have to have one of my own, or do whoever picks them up usually bring a moffet truck of some kind?

Second, where is the best place to get them that you have found? Best size? Shape?

And Finally, any tricks I should know or tips on how to use one in the most efficient manner?

    Thanks!

The most common pallet that fits the semi is 40" x 48" x3' tall. here are some links for lite reading, lol

http://www.containerexchanger.com/su...aylord_Boxes/1 Hope that helps ya,, One article said the weight of a loaded gaylord of rubber pellets was around 1650 lb. Yep you better sit it where you really want it, cause your not gonna move it later. The pallets I would buy them used also, they run around $5.00

I found a used pallet jack I move mine around with. I do tell the LTL companies I ship with they either need to have a loader on the back of their truck. Haven't had any problems yet.

When trying to get the gaylord boxes without going broke I have found it is easiest to talk to factories or warehouses that use them all the time. Most of them are willing to come off the boxes that they receive for little or nothing. I worked out a deal where I pay $1 per skid and get the boxes for free. Around here there are a lot of guys that run around with skids on trucks and stop off at factories or other shops that may need them and sell them for a buck or two depending on the size and the shape.

Do you usually pay for the shipping, or do the people buying your scrap usually pay for it or reimburse it?
