Tips for setting up a scale?

I've been sitting on this scale since March. At first I was going to sell it but then I decided to keep it since I wouldn't come across one for the same price(free) ever again.

I am wondering if I will have any problems keeping the scale out in the weather or if it needs to be kept under cover? Obviously the computer needs to be protected but what kind of conditions can the scale itself operate in?

The electronics have stayed dry under my john boat but the scale has been rained on. So might it already be screwed up if it's not supposed to get wet?

It is assumed the two areas of concern would be the springs and the sensor on the plate. Best guess is that the sensor is well protected by the plate and should not get wet unless water pools under the scale. The springs have to be calibrated periodically to maintain accuracy anyway.

If the scale will be used in business, it is wise to have it certified once a year. This would not be as big a concern if it is only used for personal activity. Around here the state inspector calibrates the scale as part of the certification process. It is doubtful you have damaged the scale because scrap yards have similar scales exposed to the weather.
Give back more to this world than we take.

Thanks for the info. Around here the yards have their scales under awnings and I wasn't sure if it was just for the shade or to keep the rain off. For now the scale will just be for personal use. I have a 25 pound and 5 pound weight from the USPS used for checking the accuracy of scales. If I start using it for shipping I will have it certified.

From the manual I do not think this scale is IP 67 or higher, which indicates indoor use only.

Here's a link to the IP codes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Code

Link for the manual for your CD 11 scale, http://file:///home/gille/Downloads/...a64b671294.pdf

Nice scale by the way, totally portable - battery operated.

The PCS button is used for counting parts, awesome feature.

Thanks a bunch for all that info man. We don't get a lot of rain out here in AZ so hopefully I haven't ruined it if it's made for indoor use only. I kind of wanted to build an awning over it anyway just for the shade but if I need to keep it out of the rain as well that's just twice the reason to build one

Under the platform there's four load cells, there's a good possibility these are waterproof. If you can get the model and a part number for the lod cells do a google for the specifications.

The tablet used for reading etc. reading the cleaning instructions from the manual I can definitely see that it's not waterproof.

Pat's late husbands Hayes logging truck, truck and trailer were equipped with load cells with the reader installed inside the cab. Truck had Cummins power with a 5 plus 4 transmission.

The Jake engine brake was awesome made a nice rapping sound that would rattle the windows in the houses as you passed by.
