    Post The Perfect Scrapping truck?

    I've been doing alot of thinking lately on how i Can build my truck to be the perfect truck for what i do.

    Because in the world of diesel trucks, some people say "its not what you buy its what you build". A work truck with a purpose. it has to haul scrap, tow what you need it to tow. haul thousands of pounds in the box and keep you safe. Make you money, and look good at the same time.

    How would you guys build the "perfect Scrappers truck"?




    what are some of the mods you have made, to help you do your job?

    If I would have stayed in hauling rv's for a living I was going to take my Chevy duallie (diesel) and have the motor and trans removed.
    I would have sold them to pay for the conversion. I had a Mercedes-Benz 5 cyl and a 5 speed out of a box delivery truck lined up, and a friend(mechanic) game enough to do the conversion. Our thinking was, better milage, better life span, and more power. At the time I could have bought the package for $700. The Mercedes were getting way over 500,000 before any major servicing was needed.

    Other wise, I loved my Chevy duallie. They should have bought some companies diesel motor and put them in their trucks, that way they could compete with the Fords. I had my pump rebuilt by a diesel repair company and it increased my fuel milage and at the time I could outpull the 6.9 ford trucks.

    i mean more in the way of mods and accessories. a diesel pic up is obviously the way to go but is that it...?


    if i could build my own truck id go with a 6500 mega cab with extended frame, i'd have it set up for mini bins, and have a flat deck i could winch on for every other job. with a wheel lift for cars. winch on front and back, work lights, on board air. i need cross between a 4dr flat bed tow truck and mini bin truck

    One of those lift tailgates can be handy on(for) the back, ....no pun intended

    yeah but the you have to have commercial insurance and you will catch the eye of the dot man.a 3/4 or 1 ton is plenty

    I want one that never needs worked on, or has flats, always has enough cargo space, and never needs more 5$ worth of fuel to go 1600 miles ! If you that truck I'll buy 3 of em!

    If we are talking bout mods here, this is one my favorite I've done to my rig.

    Works great but would be better on a flat bed so you could get closer to the edge of your bed which in turn make loading larger sized items easier.

    Tommy liftgate for sure. costs about $1500 installed

    i keep going back and forth on that one...now i have another winch on my trailer anything i don't want to lift i just winch it up the ramp.wood stoves are a good example.

    my paint is failing, i've been thinking about box liner painting my truck. it'd be nice to be able to throw a rotor and miss the box and not have to worry about chipping the paint.

    If i where to build my 99 ram id start with a built tranny. Stock ones are trash. Absolute garbage. Maybe do a 5 speed swap instead of the auto.

    Followed by a nice turner, and a set of injectors. Already got an aftermarket fuel system.

    Set up my brush bar with auxiliary lights for night jobs. Oh ya, and get the cb radio working again!
    If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all...

    i have a tommy gate on the dodge 2500 um it"s $4459 installed and they don"t make the cable one anymore had to change it cuz getting parts was a *****

    honest answer is a hooklift with containers and a winch/flatbed plug in to act as a tow truck drop a container pcik up a junk car get loaded container switch to a box drop off car get a differnt container and so on add a trailer and do even more
