    Winch recommendation?

Has anyone used a Smittybuilt winch? Specifically, I'm considering the VRC8 - 8000 pound. About the max I'd expect to be pulling would be 5,000 pounds on a tilt bed.

People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

On winches they recommend time and half weight rating of what you'll actually be winching so for 5000 pull 8000 would be plenty but I would recommend no less than a 10k cause you never know what you'll winch I the future and theres not a lot of price difference. Not used that brand personally but have heard good things bout em from other people.

And not to forget on a tilt bed you'll be pulling uphill which increases the load as well

Thanks, guys. I just got done ordering it from Amazon for $299 and free shipping, which I figure would be quite a bit for 94 pounds. One thing that helped convince me was when I called a local trucking store that sold the same model winch. They quoted $499.00!! That was almost half price on Amazon. Yeah, corycouch, I read a couple pages of those reviews last night and this IS the XRC8 (not vrc). If I remember right, one was griping about something he EXPECTED to go wrong. Anyway, I'll likely be giving a review of it on here in a month or so. If I just threw away $300, I'm going to be upset.

I agree with Tater.. apparently I was too late before you made your decision. I got a 10,000 lb Engo brand winch- if for some reason anyone here ever needs a winch- I HIGHLY recommend them, My 10K was shipped to my door for about $350.. and it is one bad mutha!

Folks can do some googling.. I think they are by far the best winches matched with price. I was looking at Mile Markers and Warns and at $800-$1200 bucks I just couldn't swallow that. Engo is fairly new on the scene- but their reputation and proving of themselves.. it looks like they are just getting started!!
I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!
