Despite being new to the forum, if I was able to, I'd help with getting rid of the spam but that doesn't look to be happening.
The site is in a very bad state of disrepair and really needs to fixed before someone falls victim to one of the scams.

    What I wonder these days.
Is it live or is it AI?
    AI is everywhere.
    And getting "smarter".

It's bots. Scripted processes running across the internet looking for places to register and post. Many bots these days are "smart" and can determine unique registration and post methods based on meta-data provided by the site. Some are dumb and just search for very specific keywords to find a specific forum software type.

I'm probably just sentimental. Got a pretty good education in the scrapping trade here over the years. I think that most of the old guard have either aged out or died now. There aren't many left to carry on the tradition.

Times have changed. The world has changed. The days of the small time hand scrapper were numbered because it's so labor intensive. The metals recycling industry has become heavily mechanized and operates by the economy of scale now.

Point being: The whole scrapping trade as we know it is a sinking ship. A new forum location somewhere else won't re-create the magic of the past.

I totally agree 100% with hills. Almost all that are still here have been members for a long long time and we covered pretty much every subject of scrapping. I pop in to see if anything interesting has been posted but usually its a newbie asking a question thats been answered 1,000,000 times and they are a 1 and done poster..

Scrap isnt a hot forum topic anymore due to social media, aka YouTube. its easier to watch a video on how to scrap something, dumpster dive, garbage picking, ect... Plus if you have a channel, you make a following and make friends on there. plus with the community page, you can share more than just movies, its almost like having your own SMF thread. (check mine out if you feel like it) https://www.youtube.com/@ThorntonScrapper/community

And a new forum is cool, but this site has been super slow for a few years even b4 the spam hit. i also dont feel like starting all the conversations over ya know..... Its like i got my scrap education here and i graduated... time to leave the nest lol
