40 foot 5th Wheel Albatross

Hello all. My hubby and I purchased a 40 foot 1993 5th wheel a couple of years ago. I'll skip the dramatic story, but will just say it involves about half bad luck and half stupidity on our part. The mold issues it had were more extensive then we realized and we ran out of money and time to finish it. I am wondering if there would be any money or sense in scrapping it? A magnet doesn't stick to the side so I am guessing the siding is aluminum. It weighs about 10,000 pounds and has two furnaces and 6 brand new tires. Any thoughts would be helpful.

You might get more than scrap for it by posting it on craigslist as a fixer upper.

Well I tried selling it for $4,000. No takers.

You wont get over $2,000 in scrap. They are alot of work and time but if you cant sell it, its worth scrapping it.

what would 10,000 pounds be across the scales ? Parting things out is sometimes the best way to go. Are the stove and fridge good? the furnaces? Maybe somebody looking for just that item. CL might not be the only avenue, have you checked local shoppers, thrifty nickels etc? What about a nearby trailer sales? Maybe they could take and dismantle it to use parts as well? Nothing much really, just thinking out loud

It's full of mold and mildew, that stuff will soak into everything inside the unit.

You can demold an oven by turning it on

We are in the process of breaking our 1977 30 footer down. Long past repairable and the yard offered $50 a ton on the hoof. That would give us less than $200. So we are having a blast tearing that sucker apart. Very therapeutic. If we hit $201 in scrap metal I will consider it a win win.

Campers and RV's will usually be docked big time just rolling them across the scale, due to the extreme "fluff" content

When I called about dropping off a truck camper two years ago , the Only yard that would take it whole , wanted $ 175 Minimum , with the final price depending on the weight

Keep in mind that the bare frame left in tact makes a good trailer,i would ask 1000.00-1500.00 for the unit.Be carefull to leave wire harness in tact if possible.
