Illegal dumping sites

There are several places in my town and next town over where people go and illegally dump stuff. Son and I go at least once a month to see what we can find.

We have gotten copper out of a smashed TV and monitor, copper pipes from an old toilet, several old metal chairs, a bicycle. We took the bicycle after it was cleared through the police that it wasn't stolen. Also, because of the one area being known for illegal dumping, the police know my vehicle incase someone thinks that we are doing the dumping and calls the police on us. They (police) know what we are doing.



Does anyone else check out these sites?

We got one around here that always gets dumped on. Usually theres furiture, Tv's, tires, pallets, garbage bags, Logs and branches. Not to much scrap tho

Found a mid 50's bike at and old dump site a couple of months back, sold it on CL for $40.

Don't forget the circuit boards, even the low grade boards add up, if you have a place to stockpile them.

Bikes....If you flip it over where the front sprocket and pedals are, if you look on the frame on the underside where the crankshaft goes into the frame is where the serial # is.

Ive been getting scrap from illegal dumps for years. I make the rounds about once a month.

Don't forget the circuit boards, even the low grade boards add up, if you have a place to stockpile them.

If I stockpile anything more in my house, hubby will have a fit.

If it's illegal to dump would it be illegal to take? Private property? I'm not saying I don't do it or wouldn't. Just wondering

It is always best to get the property owners permission Ace, it always helps to boost society's views on scrappers when they do things the right way.

To clarify none of the dumps i hit are on private property.They are on national forest land and i am well known and respected by all local law enforcment. Do your research before you attempt this county or state laws may be different for you.

Years ago somebody dumped about 2 dozen HUGE cast Iron boiler sections in the woods. Somebody made out like a bandit hauling them off for scrap.

I love it when people ditch the window AC's. We get a lot of appliance dumping around here since the towns dump charges insane fees and has stupidly strict regulations on what they will accept. It would cost nearly 50 bucks to dump an AC here legally. 10 for a yearly dump pass, 25-30 for the appliance shop to pump out the freon and attach the enviromental tag that the dump requires and another 10 at the dump as a "larg appliance" fee.

And they wonder why there is so much debris dumped in the state Forrest around here!

I used to locate the one I knew of by smell but sight works too...

Sorry I couldn't resist but they aren't posted anywhere that the corner of so and so and 3rd street is an illegal dump site. Most town have a dead end street or a empty city block that is grown up where people will throw trash. You just have to look for them

There is one that I stumbled upon about a year ago. My friend said there was an old cemetary up this random road in the middle of the woods. When we went drove up the hill and parked there was a ton of junk about 50 yards from the cemetary. There are a few fridges, old farm gas tanks, a couple a/cs and alot of random stuff. But once I looked in a little further there was 4 old 40's and 50's cars. I want to grab that stuff but there is an old farm sted another 100 yards down the road that was burned down. At the ruins of this house people have dumped more fridges and alot of water heaters. So anyways I was wondering who I would talk to about finding who owns that land. It is a gold mine and not may people seem to know about it or care about it.

Also I have heard that my scrap yard will not take cars with out the title. If I were to be able to get this stuff and the cars how could I scrap the cars? Thanks

In my state, you have to call the county sheriffs dept. they need to come assess the situation and determine that you have ownership of the vehicle without a title. This is to prevent theft and chop shops from scrapping cars. Most of the time they wil just run a check through their stolen cars system and give you a letter saying you own the vehicle. Call the local pd, maybe and ask if they know anything about it
