Toyota flatbed worth anything in scrap

My toyota flatbed wont pass smog and if I drive it they will tow it. Its a factory dually 1 ton and im really sad because i just started scraping and made all my money with heavy items. Now i know its 4100 lb because of scales should i just scrap it. can you just drive it up to the yard or do i have to drain it and tow it.

Oh, but I thought you read every thread on this forum?

At any rate, call YOUR yard. EVERY yard is different in how they want things brought to them.

Why won't it pass? Missing smog parts or does it have a tired motor?

If it is practical to repair it i would. We dont have smog here so I dont know how expensive it may be. otherwise check with your yard as far as their requirements.

emissions test NA, to determine if it's causing more smog than allowable by local ordinances

Hey Skippy, I had an old truck before that had no cat, and they wouldn't pass it, fact was, that truck wasn't made with a cat. For years I'd take it to the next county over to tag it, until it finally gave out and I had to use another one. It didn't pass at first either, and the cost of having it analized to tell me why was more than replacing the whole emissions system. So that's what I did, part by part, as best I could guess what next, I just began replacing parts, and each time it failed the test, I got another grace period. During this process, until it passed, I also discovered that all testing centers are NOT alike! Sometimes one will do tests totally different from another. I learned this from standing in lines and hearing people talking about it, " Oh yeah! every time I went to the one on ***** Lane, they failed it, but soon as I went to the one on **** Road it passed first time!"

toyota has 250,000 miles and i bought it for 600$ from flooring shop about 5 years ago put very little into repairs. It has made me lots of money but I get only 6 or 7 miles per gallon its a 6 cl so something is wrong. my mechanic said it was mis firng he fixed but said i need a new cat. Its mainly the gas milage thats kill me i get almost all my scrap from craigslist free. I want to hook up a trail to the corolla or get something to get scrap that get better gas mileage. I do better with bulk items because my arthritis have damaged the functioning of my fingers so breaking down stinks for me.

My advice would to scrap the truck. You've paid $125 a year for it. Now cut the cat, radiator and battery out. Maybe part it out and sell the shell to the scrap yard. Buy a little 4x8 or 5x7 trailer to pull with the Corolla. Then start working up, if you want, to a pickup and dual axle trailer.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

yeah, you could probly sell the motor and tranny too, who knows. Too bad you can't do your own mechanic work, that alone would save you a fortune. hek, advertise it whole, at better than scrap, let a fixer upper have it

SMOG TEST: A tax first introduced in ca back in the late 60s or early 70s that perticularly affects those of lower incomes who cant afford new trucks and cars.

Thanks for the advice its hard to let go we would be down to one car. 1ton toyota flatbeds w/10 ft bed are hard to find. I still remember how I had 9 ft of scrap on it car bumpers, fenders, water heaters, big chunks of metal and I had dollar signs for pupils. plus you arent supposed to sell it if doesnt pass smog. I just see how much scrap im missing out on in the mean time. Who's fault is it that gas prices are so high whats the point of invading a country if you dont take their stuff

Did you get an estimate to get it fixed? 250k on a Toyota V6 isn't bad. Mine went 400k before I passed it down to another family member.

List it on Craigslist and someone will buy it for more than scrap price.

Definately put it up for sale skippy! List it in an area with no smog test and don't list it for less than grand!

I'd be interested in seeing how much you'd sell it for Skippy. I only live a couple hours north of you.

wow i would love to have that truck.maybe swap it out to a turbo 4cyl, my old diesel may get better mileage though. but it has a 1/2 mile turning radius. i have to back up and try again even in the biggest cul de sac.
