I need a little help here - Is there any more that i need to take off of these boards or am I done with them?



And the things in the picture below... I am about to throw at the wall! Anyone care to tell me how to get them open before they start flying across the room?

You need to take the plastic off the slot-card CPU. You could take the fingers off the finger cards if you wanted to max $. Also, remove the Al heat sink

im glad you asked this ive been wondering if i needed to do anymore to mine, jeremiah are you refering to the heatsink on the video card im assuming u are, the ones i have so far i have left them on

I understand that the plastic needs to be off of the slot processor it's getting it off that i am having a problem with...

is the Al sink that silver one in the 1st pic? What if the heat sink won't come off?

It may depend on your buyer, the ones I've used so far will not pay slot-card price for the total weight with the Al heat sink on. I was told by one that if he has to remove it remove it he will pay less. You may want to check with some of the awesome buyers in the electronic recycling threads.

Get a large flat head screw driver and just get to prying. Just slide the screw driver between the plastic and the board and pry.

On the slot processor, pentium II, just shove a flat head screw driver in there and twist. In the picture the lower right is what it will look like when you've gotten rid of all the junk. On the heat sink remove or not check with your buyer for the correct answer. Mike.

I use a cheap kitchen scale that weighs in ounces up to 2 lbs. Anything heavier than that and you can use a bathroom scale. They might not be completely accurate but at least can give you an idea, especially if you don't have anything else to use.

i think that tiny heatsink on the motherboard is ok, and i've seen most buyers say just leave the little strip of steel on the add in boards

i pull the aluminum heatsink off the board..if I'm bored. Split the cpus out of the plastic. I leave the plastic guides for the slot processors on the boards, just because It takes too much time to remove. They typically break off when I slam other boards on top of them. Leave the metal guides on the other cards...

BUT, fair warning, not all the buyers will buy the cards with fingers removed. Might end up double shipping.
Check with your buyer you normally use.

Pry off AL heatsinks with flathead screw driver and pop plastic cover off slot processor (dont worry about damage to CPU). Leave face plate on PCI cards. Cutting fingers off cards is worthwhile if your buyer pays premium for fingers and still buys fingerless cards otherwise leave them on.

What's a Face plate? I was thinking about trying to pry the heat sinks off of the boards but what if i damage the board itself?

Recycing REALLY damages the boards, so don't concern about damaging the boards. Mike.

I could be wrong, but buyers do not car of the condition of the boards (aside from gold fingers being cut off). They buy pc boards to melt them down to harness the gold content from them.

That is why PC scrap is valuable. If it wasn't for the gold in them, the only thing be worth anything scrap wise, would be the metal carcasses.

Then for the still working stuff like power supplies, pc chips, memory sticks, etc then you could try ebay or even craigslist.

Ahhh I see... Duh! I guess I was thinking that the buyer would test them to see if they worked or something but now that I think about it that would be way more involved and time consuming.
