asking people for scrap

i went to a couple houses and knocked on the door i had couple of people not anser is this normal even if there are cars in the driveway? but i had three ppl anser so far one said they would keep me in mind if they got some from there job another one said they had a scrap water heater and i said no cause i didnt know if it was worth it is it? i even wrote a list of stuff i take i kno tvs and ac's and pipes and apliances is there anything else thats worth taking apart thats not got alot of steel?

Water heaters are worth 15 to 20 bucks apiece depending on your tin price. Don't forget to take the brass fittings off first.

People might not like the intrusion of a door to door "salesman". Also depends on the neighborhood you're in. Maybe print a professional looking flyer and stick it in the door? (not on a car or under the windshield wiper. When those things get wet they make a mess!)

no no its not like that see they said id need a truck to get it out and i have no truck and dont know anyone with a truck dont have a trailer either. what about the anti corrosion node is that copper? and the dip thingy? does it matter if its electric or gas is there a difference? i do have a hack saw maybe i could um cut it into small pieces is there any danger to opening a water heater is it gona burst off from pressure? you see i only have a car that hinders what i can take. the house is not far from where i live i can just carry the pieces back to save gas what about the lime i guess thats y there so heavy.

buck up and haul that thing in the trunk of your car or backseat.....Or get a wagon and haul it back to your house.....get creative and make money so u can buy a truck

If you cannot afford even a small pickup and no trailer, you are better off sticking with non ferrous for the time being.

People say a lot of things. Is your car nice, or can you haul scrap with it? If it's the latter, then by all means get some rope or straps and strap it to the roof or shoe horn it inside. I used to have a Nissan mini van and with both bench seats out I could stuff a lotta chit in there. Don't be afraid to make things happen.

The dip tube? Plastic. Unless you're referring to the T&P valve. It will be brass and likely have a copper tube coming off it.

Gas might have brass fittings for the gas connection. Otherwise they are similar.

I have a hard time cutting them up with a sawzall and cutoff wheel. (This was back when I tried to get that bit of solid wire running between the 2 elements. Now I snip what I can get and call it good). You won't get anywhere with a hacksaw. Yes, the pressure will send you to the moon. By all means, be careful.

They're heavy because they're metal. Maybe some sediment and water.
