i thought of something another thread gave me this idea. rookies often throw air conditoners and other copper rich items in the steel pile would it be a good idea or worth it to pay steel price for these items and buy it from scrap yard and strip it for copper? what do you guys think?

If the yard will allow you to it would be a good idea, but if a rookie does that many will put it aside and process it themselves later, increasing their profit margin.

I would think the only Yard that would let you do that, does not have a shredder.
If they just sell to the bigger yards, it would be in their best interest to do as you suggest.
If they have a shredder they are doing it themselves.

I thought about that but one guy who works at the yard already made a deal with the owners to buy the AC's to tear down himself. Whoa, whoa, whoa a second here! Just dawned on me that guy is out of commission having had hand surgery last month! ha! guess where I'm going Monday morning?!! Never even thought about that until reading this thread!

Asked my loacl yard, also local Dump about A/C They bothe 'clained' to have a HeVac tech come and de gas the units, so they cant sell to me as I am not licensed.. I suspect this is NOT true, but hey, no point arguing and risking an otherwise healthy relationship. IMO
