the skin is usually stainless, there is a nice chunk of copper wire, the elements are nickle/chrome, the kilnsitter rod is nickle, old ones were platnium, sane with the cone supports, very large silver contacts. in the kiln sitter also.

New or old, any kiln equipped with a pyrometer would have platinum in the thermocouple. Beyond that the silver contacts may have had a small amount of platinum alloyed into the silver from the manufacture.Originally Posted by olddude

resale value on a working unit can be killer. A buddy gave me a small unit that was left at his house after he kicked his wife and her boyfriend out. BF used it to sterilize his tattoo needles LOL...Turns out it was rated for like 1500 degrees and worked great...Ebayed it to a jeweler in Mexico for almost $600!
