eBay 4.4 lbs gold fingers lot sold for $454.50. Why?!

How come this sold for so much? Based on what I am reading these chips don't generally sell for this much. Am I missing something?

remember, as people learn the littlest details of the refining business from escrap, they want to try it with home kits on their own. they will learn and someone else will buy the next load for a similar price. its crazy.

Thats actually not to far off. Fingers that are solid ( no large gaps) and double sided I am currently receiving 100 dollars a pound for. Expected average recovery is said to be approx 3 grams per pound. Gold is 56.04 per gram X 3 (grams recovered per pound) = 168.12 x 4.4 pounds = 739.72. Not counting the cost of chemicals thats a 285 dollar profit

when you say 120 dollars over market value you have to take it into consideration that the e scrap buyer is reselling to make a profit as well. This guy is eliminating the middle man (e scrap buyer) and making the extra profit himself

these are fingers from assorted video/modem/sound/ and other cards. They trim with tin snips or in this case broke off with pliers.


George - some people are offering to pay 75 dollars a pound and others are paying more. Those offering 75 dollars per pound are reselling for approx 100 dollars per pound. Those paying 100 dollars per pound are generally refining themselves.

now take that $454 and subtract ebay and paypal fees your now at $385 devided by 4.4 pounds and your at 87.50 per pound. So not much more then buyers are paying per pound but hey an extra 10 bucks a pound aint bad.

There is a likelihood it also may not yield whatever the buyer thought it would. ESPECIALLY if the trim is from PCI cards.

Also not factoring in the cost of overhead, equipment, insurance, labor, taxes, waste disposal.... lets not put smoke in mirrors here and give people disillusion thoughts about how "easy" this money is. I'd hate to see someone jump on the recovery bandwagon without the proper equipment because of a "$285" profit.

If you are going to give everyone the "market" value let them know the true costs of doing business.

I predicted this in a couple of threads. As the UN reality tv shows and BS internet crap continues, those with no common sence are going to make it very hard on those of us trying to make a living. as I have said before I dont even gother to go to govdeals.com or any of those any more with people paying as much as $30 or more for junk computers. I have lately seen military scrap go for as much as 3 times spot, and washers and dryers go for $10 this is nutz. Just gotta wait it out till all the fools run out of money. Desperate people do desperate things.

that was assuming it was a home based refining project where people are less likely to have thos forms of overhead. Nor is it a project i would undertake. I know people who do and are sucessful at it but it is not "easy" and one small mistake can eliminate investment and profits.
