apple computer

has anyone had any experience breking down apple computers? going to auction this weekend where ther is several hundred for sale wondering how much to pay each. Thanks for any input in advance.

I have broken down a good many of them.....One of my clients is an Apple Store in a nearby town....In my experience there is less value to them than a standard PC. Most often they do not have a processor like you would find in a Windows PC. The processors in most of the Apples that I have come across are the same value as motherboard material.

As for what to pay.....That is a tough call all the way around. There are many Apple computers that are all-in-one so you would have to take into consideration the cost of getting rid of the CRT tube. I am sure that some will not agree but I would not pay more than $5 a piece and would certainly try to get them a lot cheaper than that.

No problem....In that case I would significantly drop what I would pay per unit unless you have an outlet for the crt tubes. The all-in-one units are a major pain to tear down, at least for the first few that you do. Apple tends to do things a bit differently than the rest of the world when it comes to how a computer should be put together. I recently tore down a few of the all-in-one units and noted that the motherboards were actually pretty small. It was taking my two employees twice the time to tear one down then it did to tear down a normal PC. But it is hard to turn down money. Best of luck at the auction.

Would they be any good to sell for parts or repair? There's got to be a market for used parts. The things are $1600 each new.

Good idea....There should be some kind of market for the parts as long as they can be tested. What I know about operating an Apple could fit in a thimble.

And I think that's why they are consistently getting better reviews than pc's. I can't wait to get on myself.

Ya know Hypo, that is the same line of thought that I have when it comes to Apple. I do believe that they are actually better machines. To show how old I am, the Apple II is what we had in school :-)

I have often thought of trying out one of the Apples, even going so far as to get one of the newer models that features the Intel processor so it can run windows for me. But the cost has always been prohibitive in my case. In this day and age I find it difficult to pay over a thousand for a computer when I can get 2 brand new windows computers for that. But that is just me being cheap lol.

I know what you mean on the price. I used one in my hotel room in D.C. for months when I got injured and I couldn't believe how great it was. It's worth he price for me, especially since I go through pc's like a teenage boy goes through girlfriends!
