What do you all think about a "how to area" in the forums. People could post there videos of how to break down certian things like washers and dryers. Or just pictures of a tear down process of say a hard drive? Just an idea.

There is a "Scrap Metal Video" forum. Wouldn't that do?

I sent a pm to admin on something similar to this about a week ago, have not heard back though. What I thought was a forum on breaking down different appliances and such. It could have videos, text instructions, what to look for, etc. It could have a separate string for each item (washer, dryer, water heater, etc). And not limited to appliances, it could include TV's, transformers, autos, etc. Basically a how-to and what to look for for new folks or for old timers who receive something new that someone else has broken down before.

If its done then make it where a admin has to say yes to the post....that way you dont get something dumb or wrong...so no one gets hurt.

good suggestion ,easy. We don't want something like that idiot on youtube who breaks down stuff in his flip-flops and doesn't know how to tighten the bits on his drill.

I have video on my phone but it's lame. If i were to make how to videos I'd want a better camera for clarity on what is being dismantled. Plus I don't have a way of holding the camera while taking things apart.
lol, I agree Kris Kringle. Someone will want 1,001 ways to dismantle a tv, or a microwave, or a dryer or.......
Maybe I can partner up with flip flop guy. Buy him some shoes, show him how to tighten drill bits and let the dismantling begin.

I don't think you and flip-flop would make good partners. His work time is severely limited by the times he has to push his bee-bop glasses up !! He wouldn't fit in your ice shaving outhouses either !!!! He must have a good camera though. When you get right down to it, newbies CAN learn a little from his video's...maybe the names of the parts and what they look like. I agree though, most of us don't have good camera's and we already have a section on video's. So, I agree with those who think it would be redundant.

I think it would get quite a bit of activity. It could be a forum for new folks to get some good information from, as well as some of the old timers here. It allows for folks to research in one string of posts without having to jump all over the place. If I get something new to break down, the first thing I could do is go there to see if I can get any advice or pointers. If not, then I can break it down and post my results in a new string with some how-to's and things to look for.
Not to mention a huge reduction in consistantly posted questions on "how do you do this" and "what should I look for in that". One thing I would suggest though is to limit posts to "how to's" and if anyone has a question about a specific item then there already has to be a string started on that item. Example: Don't allow questions on how to dismantle a dryer if a dryer string has not already been started. If a dryer string has been started and the poster's question is not already answered in the string somewhere, then they can post it.
Have you seen the one where he uses a chisel to get the copper out of the transformer, except he chisels the steel? I guess some like to work hard.

I would contribute. Maybe not to an entirely new forum, but for a new thread or section, yeah.

I know I would contribute to it. I might not do a video but I sure would do a picture breakdowns of stuff. I have an HD video camera and 12MP still camera. So I can get some real good quality I just dont talk to a camera. Mostly I thaught it would be good for us small timers to know exactly whats inside some stuff so we know whats good to tear out and what to leave in for shred. Just my $.02
Possibly, but would anyone buy them? We seem to get a regular influx of people who want information spoonfed to them. Doubt they'll pony up a Benjamin to better their life.
