What about LCD "screens"??

Hopefully Easy Recycle will respond as well.....I have desk-top computer screens as well as 40" and larger LCD screens.....any value?? They are the black or tinted part is what I'm asking about. The desktop ones also come with a thick piece of plexi-glass with the white dots on it.....does the plexi go for more than say ABS or PPS??? I have a stack of the black screen part, with the "flaps that plug into the circuit board strip.

I will need to see photos...but its best to keep them whole an sell them whole...9 times out of 10 they can be repaired and or parted out an be worth more than scrap.

Here we go.... now that I know how to do pics. After the flat screen is broken down (lcd) here's whats left the 2 circuit boards, a piece of acrylic? with dot matrix on it-1/4 inch thick, and the "black screen" that plugs into the circuit strips. The black piece has thin glass in the center. I didnt show the paper thin plastic sheets
that are luminous like?(3). Anyone recycling these??

The LCD pictured appears to be out of a laptop? I buy the complete desktop LCD but have not found an outlet for just the LCD yet unless it works and I know of someone who needs the part. The boards attached to the monitor with the gold plating are motherboard grade and pay the same. For buyers like me and easy alike it is generally better for the seller to leave the LCD monitor intact as you will get more for it that way than on the weight of those few boards attached to the LCD panel itself.

Thanks CLR, and that is from a desk-top flat screen monitor. The weight sure would run up quick on these, even without the stand. I usually get 3-4 per week
and most aren't worth the fix.......

For buyers like me and easy alike it is generally better for the seller to leave the LCD monitor intact as you will get more for it that way than on the weight of those few boards attached to the LCD panel itself.

Are you saying I should just leave the monitor all together, or should I take the plastic bezel off as well as the base.

So, best to take apart the bad lcd and keep the good one.

along that there are plastic, and metal, save it, they are worth a penny here and there, and the VGA Cable and the monitor connector back board..

Do those little tabs that are hanging on the screen contain gold? Ive always tried to pull them out so they are still connected to the board bc i thought they might add value to the board.. ??

I sell the flat screen monitors whole to a friend of mine, who is a repair tech, for $10.00. He repairs or parts them out on the side and then tries to sell them for extra money. While it might not be big bucks, it allows me to flip them quickly and keeps me in touch with him to (hopefully) give me a possible lead somewhere down the line.

The screens have rare earth minerals associated with them.

I have been looking into how viable it might be to refine rare earth minerals, and may take a stab at it in the next year or two. I know of a few other people interested in the same sideline. As rare earth minerals become more and more difficult to source, the value of this type of scrap will only increase. It's like money in the bank if you have the space to store them until people start to refine rare earth minerals.

I believe in the future a considerable amount of rare earth minerals that are used in industry are going to come from recycle sources. If you took silver as an example, 40% of all the silver used in manufacturing in the United States comes from recycled material. If not for recycled silver, the industry that relies on silver in the United States would come to a grinding halt.

I'm sure if you or someone else develops a way to make this recovery profitable, there will be an endless supply of material. There was one company that posted on here that they buy lcd screens, but after contacting him, I was told that they only charge for them..intact or not.
