Submersible Motors

Anyone have any experience with these? This one has two pieces. Are they both motors? Have any of you ever scrapped them and did you get "electric motor" price?

They are extremely heavy (about 40-60lbs). I am curious as to whats in them.

Sump pump I did a while back was full of oil, didn't know that till it puked on me.

My previous job that I was laid off from dealt with Repairing/installing Water well motors, and the occasional dropping of Submersible Well Pumps, not primarily, but we did sometimes. I've always had the hardest time trying to get inside and seperate those... I'd always end up throwing them in electric motors.

I used to get all the scrap from that job, up to 20hp motors were given to me... of course anything higher than that up to the bigger 500hp motors got put back in the shop to be repaired for rental use.

Used to get all the leftover pecor head covers, bonnets, copper wiring scraps, phlanges, etc that were irreparable

I've had a few Miele brand dishwasher motors. They we part of a waterproof system and covered in plastic. Turned them in as motors after cutting the wiring I could get to.

They were not that big. Maybe 6-8 pounds ea.

my yard would not take the submersible motor like they do regular ac motors, said it was too heavy for the amount of copper inside.

i had almost the same exact one. they took the lighter part in as 40% stainless or somthing and i got less then tin price for it. the other part i just threw in my tin pile on an early scrap run before i even had a clue what it was. i did end up getting a lot of brass from it though where they join together...

yeah I pulled the brass couplings off too.

At my job we are trying to take the motor from a sub apart but the copper wiring is in some kind of ceramic coating nd we are trying to figure out how to get the copper out we busted it up enough to see the copper but can't get it completely out

I come across them from time to time, I leave them alone as they seem like a 60lb rubics cube for what you get.... We collect our own water here and we have wells dug that we use for toilets etc on the Island. Next time I come across one I'll snag it and break it down see if can't find a "easy"" way to get her to open up.
