Oodles and oodles of remote controls

A while back I picked up off Craigslist between 1500-2000 remote controls. Earlier this week finally got around to scrapping them. So how many boxes do those boards fill? This many, all packed to the top. From a dollars and sense perspective, this was not time well spent lol!

Here are some of the better ones. There were a surprising amount with visible gold, only a couple are pictured here.

did you try selling any of them? I just had to buy one for a blue ray player, they go for $13-$35. still looking for a Dennon remote for an amp. not willing to spend the $80 they go for on ebay...you'd be surprised what some remotes go for...

Unfortunately couldn't see how they'd been stored previously and had no way to test them beyond general power. Saw some of the prices on ebay too.....

    Remotes....their kinda fun to get.

My board results are the same as yours. Some good, some not so good. I find their like house phones...can be good or bad.

Tell me you didn't unscrew each one? I use a hammer an chisel. Line up with the groove where the two outer pieces connect, an whack. Heck just a hammer will work if you hit the sweet spots. An much faster then removing the screws, lest for me. Plus I enjoy bashing things.

Good post. Thank you for sharing your results.

An I never bothered to resell the ones I've gotten, an don't plan to. Most of what I get are from cable, directv/dish, or older tvs. No way for me to judge if they work well enough to sell as I cut the cord a long time ago. So to the great remote control graveyard in the sky they go. /evil laugh

Lolololol! The Xboxbox (my new favorite word) came from one I scrapped. I admire greatly all they're doing with current video game storytelling and styling but it's just not for me. I'm a pinball guy. And sir! I'll have you know that the Mexican beer case had cables in it when I got it! And as for the rest.....guilty. Very happily guilty. That Stone variety pack was quite nice. The two different Lion beers were both pretty good, the Imperial Ale better than the lager. But got them both at Bud price as a warehouse inventory dump so, I may have several more empty cases left over from my move from Detroit earlier this year.

Bruh, you don't even wanna know how long it took me to crush that box of otter pops. I tore through it like it was the only thing standing between me and a lifelong love affair with my favorite pornstar.

In my experience, remotes that are not 'universal' sell on Ebay pretty well - $6 + .
I have sold remotes that were damaged, and even missing the battery door. Most I sold one for was $28 ( pictured below ).
    How to test a remote:
Fire up the web camera on your laptop / tablet / smart phone and point the IR transmitter right at it. Move the remote as close as possible, and start pushing buttons while looking at the screen for flashes of light.

just bought a remote off ebay for $13, so there is a market. (prices ranged from the low of $13 to $34)

picked up a blue-ray player the other week at a yard sale for $3. figured I'd have a spare and use a universal since she had no remote. turns out it is a computerized one with internet and wifi and all that, picks up my kodi and rebroadcasts it. pretty nifty. was gonna keep it but they sell pretty good.

since you can't set it up without remote I found the owners manual online with a list of "what's included" and found the part # for the original and ordered one...then I sold it for $40 so I made $24 after buying the remote...

    just sayin'...
