Brother MFC-6490CW Fax Machine Breakdown w/pics

Hi all! Did a pick-up this morning and this fax/copier was one of the items (along with some alloy rims, a tremendously heavy office safe, couple of large tvs and more!). So here's what I ended up with after breaking it down. As others have mentioned before, lots of plastic. I didn't weigh the boards or grade them as I'm not yet up-to-speed with board grading but at least one looks high-grade and the long thin one seems to have a good bit of gold (or maybe just gold colored something).

    6lbs steel/iron of a few types
8oz insulated wire of various types (including aluminum wire)
    15oz copper bearing motors

How many pounds of plastic, glass and trash? Sometimes you can make more by taking something in as is vs breaking down. And the only way to know is breaking something down 1st.

Totally. Wanted to do it for the sake of learning what's going on with it. But also they'll pick up the glass recycling here and, I think, much of the plastic. I make a little less $ but a lot less stuff ends up in the landfill. And at least right now I'm in a position where I don't have to make the maximum so long as I make enough. But check with me in six months lol!

When the item makes it to the shredder they make money on plastic and other fluff they process. I used to break down every thing as far as I could, but then prices fell and it is not worth it for me to break down a vacuum cleaner in order to get a motor that may be worth only worth $.05 - $.15 a pound for it. Breaking down scrap is fun to do, relaxing and a excuse to drink a few beverages while you do it!

Ah yes....I seem to have left out the aluminum from the beer cans in the breakdown... I didn't know about the plastic part. Was under the impression that the glass and nonmetals passing through the shredder would end up in the landfill. Thanks for that!

I always have a few ounces of aluminum left over, when breaking down scrap...
