Summer is defiantly here, as the song says "Despite the heat it'll be alright". Hobo, couldn't resist with another one from the past!


Summer is just getting started, we all work too much, so have some fun too!

Man ... first day of summer. It was a beautiful day and there was a full moon on the way home from work last night. It's a little different here.The solstice is a turning point. The days start getting shorter now. It's a reminder to kick it into high gear and make the most of the good weather while it's here. Hard to imagine, but Memorial Day will be here before you know it. The days will start to cool and by Halloween the kids will be trick or treating in their winter coats.

Cali & Arizona are an endless summer in comparison.

We're a different climate regime than yours scrappah (extreme continental) so the summer solstice, at least for me, isn't the high point of the summer as July typically has the highest mean temps but August can be pretty dam hot as well. But by sometime in August the decreasing daylight catches up with me and I often wonder what needs to get done before a killing freeze and actual winter, even though meteorological winter really doesn't start here until sometime in November. I'm actually looking forward to freeze up this year and hopes that it comes earlier than the past few because with fur prices being in the crapper for most species, I plan to hunt more waterfowl this year. An earlier freeze up without a major blizzard concentrates the migrating ducks and geese more on lakes that are staying open. They're easier to pattern that way. But you still have to get them close enough for a shot!! I've been around 300,000 snow geese while deer hunting on a NWR in northern SD, pretty spectacular sight and SOUND!! Some of those white buzzards are so old they're only good for making goose jerky. Hobo would probably eat that stuff (hahaha!!)!

It's not too different here Rog. July & August are as hot as the blazes. The thing is that the economy here is seasonal.You've gotta make the most of it while you can.Memorial day through Labor day is the time of year when you make most of your income for the year. I generally figure it costs 250.00 - 300.00 $ / day in lost wages to take a day off.

The summer people are impatient.If you're not right there, Johnny on the spot, they will get somebody else to do the job.

Gotta make hay while the sun shines cause opportunity won't wait.

< Sigh>The solstice is a turning point. The days are getting shorter now.It's a reminder to stay focused and work your butt off cause you know what's coming in a few months.
