How dumb am I for not ebaying car/truck parts?

    How dumb am I for not ebaying car/truck parts?

    I have scrapped around 200 cars in the last 3 years or so, the money was good when the metal market was up.



    Since the bottom fell out, I have been pondering the notion to start ebaying small parts like tailights, computers, etc.

    Anyone have any luck at it?

    Any and all feedback would be appreciated.

    I squeeze out a lowly existence here in the hills of Tennessee buying and selling ewaste so I guess it could be done

    You can do well if you have the right parts. Check the sold listing first for the particular part you have.
    I used to do well selling vintage car parts on ebay, 50's, 60's & 70's.

    I use to do pretty good selling used auto parts on eBay for the last several years. Like was mentioned check the sold listings and see what sold recently and for how much that will give you a good idea of how much you could list the part for and a good idea of what you could make off of it. As an example I use to look up the parts I had on hand see if they recently sold and for what, then I would list my parts for a little more then the latest sellers and have it as a good into cancelled listing with buy it now and make an offer option, using this method I made an average of $700 in parts value off each car regardless of age not including the scrap value of the vehicle itself, but results will vary for parts sales, values, and outcomes, etc... My best sellers were from 1940 to 1995 vehicles on average.

    Do what these guys said. Do the research suggested on ebay sold items. Go slow at first with just a couple of listings and build up from there.

    Personally I use the 10 day listing with the automatic 2 times relist. That give me 30 days with my listing much nearer the top for the entire 30 days. If you don't understand my meaning on this its ok you will soon after you start listing.

    I read listings that have sold and use them a basis to how I write mine. Take lots of photos and view them in the listing preview to make certain they show the flaws. If the photos don't, take more photos. Its important to be accurate in your listings. 73, Mike

    Quality of car and how many made are a big factor.

    I've made a pretty decent amount of cash parting out trucks and jeeps. I wouldn't expect to make that much off of a Kia, Cavalier, Saturn, etc.

    Biggest concern for me is being able to prove it works, to mitigate any eBay pissed off buyers.

    It depends on the parts. When I was rebuilding my 1986 Dodge RAM project, I needed taillights. A new set cost $40. There were no used assemblies available. If someone had a pair listed, they could have made $30, less $10 for shipping. That would have been a pretty easy $20. You'd need a lot of storage space, though.

    My advice- Look into selling car stereos. Some of them are worth a lot.
