Does anyone on the forum collect Vintage Boards?

So I'm a rookie at e-waste to say the least.. but in my short travels I have come across some pretty awesome stuff and have been spending some of my recycling profits on some really cool boards that I have on order right now and should be here in the next few days.. Just wondered if anyone else on the forum does their share of scrapping boards but every so often they say "WHOA.. I'm saving this bad boy?" because it is just too darn cool to know it will be shredded and killed?

*Will post pictures of my boards when they arrive**

I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

I don't collect them...yet. But I'm a photo junkie so I'll be back when they arrive.

I am 100% in the same camp as you. I probably overpay for some of the really cool looking boards. Just picked one up with 60 of the small gold ic chips. Just love seeing and buying the stuff. Can't wait to see pics of your stuff.

I don't pay for cool boards. But, if I come across one, I'll hang onto it sometimes. I have an old sound card from a Packard Bell next to my desk- it's almost 2 feet long!

I don't pay much for my hobbies, though.

Well I just recently broke down a server.. I loved the chips on it.. so I torched them off as they were soldered. Not too worried about that one as I really just wanted the chips... but after I went hunting for those chips.. I ended up finding some still on different board than the ones I had.. So my board had 1 chip.. I saw a board with 5 of them on the same board.. said "Oh I gots to have dat!!" That is one of the 2 on its way to me.
    HA!

Chicken **** in my book....if it sells on eBay then its shipped out....that's why they make a reserve and or minimum bid

    And that's why I don't use auctions.

If I did, there is no way that I would list something with a low starting bid- especially for something that isn't common.

    What can you do, though?

I got a box full of 486 motherboards. Don't collect them, but know they are better than scrap value. Just to lazy to post them up on eBay. Also. Nail that seller with negative feedback and report him. That's bs!

I agree with all of you.. He listed the board because he saw one similar that went for $284 (stated it in his listing!!).. he could hear the "CHA-CHING" My high bid was only $152.. so since he didn't get even close to his dream of $284.. all I can gather is that he is just refusing to ship it. I opened a request with Ebay.. Have placed several messages in it.. he hasn't replied to any of them.. nor an email from me either.

He has a 100% positive rating at 676.. I'm really in disbelief that he will risk his perfect record because he failed to put a reserve on it and won't let it go for the winning bid amount. I have to wait until the 14th to see if he replies.. but since I won the auction on 3/28/15.. paid the second it was over.. and still don't have the board.. I'm taking an educated guess that he's hunkering down and just going to hold it and praying I don't neg his feedback.. He is taking a chance on the Wrong guy.. its a gamble he will wish he didn't take!

That sucks. Open claim to get your $$$ back. One thing you should NOT do is threaten to leave neg feedback unless he ships it. EBay reviews all those communications if a claim is opened. I had a buyer claim he never received an item, and threatened me with neg feedback, eBay took my side after reading his emails to me

Definitely. I'd keep the negative feedback as the trick up your sleeve. He has to know that it's coming.

Been on Ebay since 99.. so I'm well aware of the "don't threaten negative feedback" tip.. I just stick to the facts.. "I won, I paid, Please send me my tracking #" Then "I know this board probably didn't fetch what you had hoped for, but please honor the bid that won at and paid for immediately"

    Kill em with kindness!

    **Long overdue update**
He never did ship the board.. in his contact with the dispute he apologized profusely and said he would ship it immediately (Surely because Ebay was watching the conversation) After I didn't get the package or a tracking # after another 5 days I neg'd is arse.
Of course in his retort on his feedback he played violin music and said how he was in a car accident.
D-bag got what he had coming to him!

I'm very reluctant to give a negative feedback, but he sure deserves it! Has eBay refunded your money to you yet?

I have a couple boards pulled from an old 1969 Tektronics scope on the shelf. The board traces are thick hand drawn with graceful curves, the chips are socketed with gold leads, resisters are huge, and most of the parts look ancient compared to what we would use today. Kind of cool looking for a dead art before computers did all the layout work.
