Nice guy gave me a cat today

    its garbage day again....

and while delightfully throwing two big mufflers & pipes into the back of my truck, the home owner walks up and says "here ya go! this will get you a little more $ then those mufflers!"

guy hands me a 13lb catalytic converter... "whoa, thanks!!!"

now, i've never come across a cat that wasn't torn apart before... i know there is 1-2oz of platinum in them.... but i'm not going to try to get it out myself.... so i'm wondering... do scrapyards usually take them whole and pay a price per lb like other commodities? if so, how much do they usually pay out around?

or should i sell it on ebay? looks like they go for A LOT there....

    what do y'all think?

You need to know what it's off and if it's an "aftermarket". Can you post a picture? It might be worth $4 or $300.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

ok, here are some pictures... it is about 19.5" high ~ 7.5" wide ~ 4" thick and just over 11.6bs......... curious!

there was nothing at all else being thrown out tonight except regular old steel junk.... but there was a decent amount of that, i estimate i picked up about 500 lbs...

    RE: Free Cat

Looks like you got a great score! Large AC GM, in my area they are between $100 - $110.

Be careful who you sell it to. Scrap yards will probably want to pay about $45. In your area, you should be able to find a regular cat buyer. Check for any markings indicating that it's an after-market; "CA" "TOP" or brand like "MAGNAFLOW".

yeah hopefully its not an aftermarket. i got a 82 ford fl50, took the caddy off and brought it back to find out it was an aftermarket, and got a WHOPPING $3.
