    scrapping motors

I have a few motors, one from a treadmill and others from sweepers. Should I just keep these in a pile and scrap them as bulk motors of some sort or is there anything besides copper winding to be had inside? Also is there any risk of shock when doing this?

First take a file or cut a few of the windings. If its white/silver color inside its aluminum windings. these go in a dirty/irony aluminum pile. The ones that show copper on the inside you put in a copper motor pile. Then you have to decide is it worth your time to cut out the copper windings and only you can determine that. Personal I don't cut out the aluminum ones I take them in like that but do cut 50 to 75% of my copper ones. Its up to you. As for shock as long as the wires are cut and no AC or capacitors are hooked up it wont bite you.

    Good luck

Thanks for that tip! I don't have any grinders or at least havent taken to using it yet. I probably have a few metal cutting blades somewhere.

Searching old threads will give you plenty of info on this. As with anything ,you are the best judge if it's worth " your " time to break them down. Best way to decide is to do a few. As long as it's not connected to a power source your safe.

Some of the motors in treadmills produce power so Off Grid Folks dig them.

If you dont have a grinder or timid about it. Just use a file or wire snips and see if it is aluminum in color.

    scrapping motors

First search Ebay. The last treadmill motor I salvaged, I found out that the were selling for around $50 and we're popular for people making lathes or motor replacement. If you're not selling for more than scrap, then if you have the spare time, then get the windings out.....especially if copper.

Thanks for the idea of using the treadmill motor in a lathe. I had not thought of that.
They will have a nice variable speed function from zero to full on sprint.
