I found a yard close by that buys yokes for .50/lb which would have been around $65-70. Busting them up turned out to be around $150. Took a couple hours but it was more about hanging out with my buddy than $$. What do you usually get for yokes?

If you want to remove the copper from the ferrite material in the yokes, this is the easiest way, and I have tried them all.

1: put on safety glasses
2: put on gloves
3: Put on hearing protectors
4: Use a small angle grinder and cut the copper at the curve in the ferrite where the copper bows away from the core a little bit.

Once the copper is cut, you can simply pull it off & drop it in your #2 copper bucket.
I have tried smashing then & hand cutting the wire, and believe me, once you get the procedure down pat, you will do it like a pro.

I've been meaning to purchase an angle grinder. Sounds like the perfect reason to!

Caveat: an angle grinder can and will send you to the hospital with severed tendons in you do not respect it's power.
It is a great tool if you are careful.
Grind away!

I use a short tree lopper sorta tool.
Its actually a proper copper cable cutter.
The ends of the jaws lap over each other and are only 3 inches long.

I set the open end of the jaws into and nder the wire where it lifts of the ferrite and squeeze.
It breaks the ferrite and nothing bluntens sharp jaws like crushed ferrite..
But it cuts thru the vopper in two munches and then IT peel tge copper off.

Where there's glue, I peel off the loose clean wire and use tinsnips to cut around it.
By then most of the clean copper is off a.d the contaminated stuff is small and I put it in with the plastic coated wire.

Sounds like there is a ton of different techniques to get the job done. I prefer the smash approach. It's soothing after a long day at the office!

As is they only want to give copper motor price $.25 so I break them down for #2 copper much better price.

I agree with ya! CBM around here only pays .18-.20 so there is even more reason to break em' down
