Fused Yoke

I picked up a 28 in tv this morning and when I opened it up to strip it I noticed there was no screws holding the yoke in place. Upon closer inspection I read a label on the vacuum tube that said "fused yoke do not attempt to remove."
Looking under the yoke I saw that that it was attached with a large amount of epoxy.

Needless to say I was disappointed, but I found a CRT on my back from dropping the stripped TV off at Bestbuy so its all good.

I hate these kind, but then again I don't really care for any TV... Will still strip em, but with less enthusiasm...and my yard will take the copper with all the epoxy, so it's not really a hassle to remove all that gunk.

I hate those, I spend so much more time trying to pry them off by gently tapping a flat screwdriver between the yolk and tube. so far I haven't broken any.

Yeah, they are a mess. I use a wide blade putty knife to remove yoke from tube. With the yoke off, grab an edge of the glue with pliers and pull back to seperate the glue from the copper.

I do as my buddy RCA. I hate them but I'll take'm off. Closest best buy is 2 hours away, an it's summer time so that ain't happening. LOL.

An I've never seen one screwed on..like with screws..lol. Other yokes are so easy to pull it should be a crime if you don't!

I don't dislike TV's but I sure do dislike the fused/epoxyed yokes.

It releases a inner demon genie that is bad for the environment . You should not break the glass tube on tvs kinda like releasing freon it's not legal or good for Mother Nature.

interesting, I read as much as I could online looking to see if there was gas in it and all it said was there is a vacuum seal, not a gas

It is a vacumn, the hissing sound is air rushing <in>. The main thing about not breaking them is some recyclers will not take them if broken plus the big mess and danger of all that broken glass/lead lining.
