Not a bad scrapping day, even if I didn't set out to scrap

Took in 102 lbs of electric motors to pay for a little gas. Got $25.50. I try to pay for my fuel for scouting and other little jobs out of spare scrap. Went out to look at a dirt work/ wood cutting job.

And was giving a heavy suitcase weight from a larger tractor, close to 100 pounds. Going to try to find a buyer for it. Then I was given some welding leads by a friend. About 100 feet of 1/0 wire. But they are in too good shape to scrap, so they'll go on my welder. Then also some various bits of AL, a little bit of copper, and a lead on possibly getting to scrap about ten 25 feet lengths of 18"to 24" steel pipe.

I hear about people scraping electric motors all the time. But I have a some mowers to scrap. Would I get more $$$$ if I scraped the whole mower or took the motor off and scraped the motors by themselfs? I also have some old weedeaters I could scrap as well. Does anyone know the price on a gas motor? and has anyone done this before?
    Thanks and God Bless

Take the motor off always and drain the gas and oil. As long as the gas is not mixed get a funnel and a gas can. I know some of the older lawnmowers and possibly some new one's may have aluminum decks/casings.

Depends on the engine. I tore an engine down a week ago, but hard saying if it's worth it. I haven't taken it in yet.

I'd pull everything that's aluminum off the mower. Deck is probably steel. Engine is likely aluminum, but you won't be able to get all of the iron out of it, (cylinder liner for one) so they will probably mark it as dirty. My yard does anyways.

Fuel tank had some brass fittings on it so I pulled those. All in all not much there, but it adds up in my pile.

Carburetor is likely to be aluminum with brass jets inside.

It's been awhile since I tore down a weed eater, but I think that would be an aluminum block as well, with an iron liner.

You have to decide if it's worth your time. I do it because I am out of work, and scrap is slow now.

Some lawn mowers of the same brand (I think Lawn Boy) have aluminum decks, so do a quick check with a magnet.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.
