    Phone system phones

Is it worthwhile to breakdown a system phone to recover board?

Depends on the system. What do you have?

How old is the system....older ones will be loaded with high grade boards or they may be in demand for replacement parts. YMMV

I've scrapped a lot of phones and can tell you there are good and bad boards in new and old phones. I know that dosen't really tell you what you want to know but it's hard to say unless you open it up and look inside. If you could give us a model and part number I or someone else here might be familiar with it and could help you more. NEC phones usually have some nice boards in them and some of the Inter-Tel phones have a lot of gold plating in them. I scrapped some Avaya phones last year and they only had 2 brown boards in them and almost 50 (I'm serious) screws to take the dang things apart. You never know what you're going to get.

We have a mixed batch of Nortel Meridian (Serial #NT9K08AC35) and some Nortel Networks (Serial #NTMN33GA70). Also, I am having trouble posting pictures. If ya'll know how I can put one up. The 'insert image' button on the tool bar will only allow me to post a pic from a URL.

Most Nortel phones will have high grade boards but a lot of them are real small boards. What are the model numbers? most of the model numbers start with a M or a T. M7310? T7316? something like that.

M3903 for the Nortel Network & M2008 for the Meridian, which I believe is actually made by Northern Telecom.

Phones are on of those items I put low on the priority list reason being their unpredictability. I tend to see if they have eBay or resale value. If none, I wait for a rainy day with not much else to do and break down. Pads the top of the scrap load

I looked at both phones on ebay and saw quite a few between 20 and 50 dollars but nobody seems to be bidding on them.

I've been looking at this auction - I'm mostly a computer/printer/monitor etc type of guy and scrapped a good number of phones...what do you say about these PBX systems and digital phones? Any ideas for what you would bid if you were within 20 miles?

It all depends on the model, as to if it sells on ebay. Nortel, Cisco, and Avaya are a couple I've had success with, but like the Golden Bear said a check of sold listings will tell you.
