gold fingers/plating on edges of boards

What I'm really wanting to know is on certain boards there is gold plating along the edges. It is kinda like fingers on boards. Was wondering if u were to cut the edges off like u would fingers would buyers buy that as fingers. Its kinda the same thing. Some of them are like about 1/2 in thick. Thanks again everyone

I would think they would but I would see about getting better pricing if it is solid strip. More gold and probably heavier plating.

I believe that jghilino has mentioned about trimming off the gold bits and pieces and selling them on Ebay.

The edge plating is thin and not a wear point. The RF shielding is in the 3-8 micro inch thickness. most finger plating will be in the 30 micro inch thickness.

it take 105 sq in of 30 micro inch thick plating to equal one gram of gold.

It would take 400 sq in of 8 micro inch thick gold plating to equal one gram

    That side plating is junk.

Etack do those numbers hold even on older boards? I usually take an eraser and rub the plating. The real thin stuff comes off but on older boards it never does.

does this mean all fingers and or all plug ins are 30 microns, and 24 kt. I know it is in the Archives but that takes time and effort. Too much like work soooo I'll just ask here.

Some boards with full GP traces like on IBM or Tektronix they have nice plating. However its not a wear point. so it might be 20-30 micro inch thick. look at the color if its buttery than its good of it looks splattered on or light gold than its most likely thin.

Those will be thin to as they are not wear point the contact is a soft conductive pad not metal on metal.

There is no such thing as all in electronic scrap plating. when you look at the plating on memory then look at the plating on modem cards the ones you would get for free from the DSL provider. You can see the plating color difference. home PC equipment is mostly junk too. on pins and plugs it all depends on the use and reliability needed.
