    Cat value, floater ?

    Trying out new cat, and core buyer. Anyhow sold a few, pretty familiar with most but these "floaters" ford cats left me wondering. Any ideas on value ?

    I've got one from a Taurus that's been riding around with me for about six months. Last time I asked what he'd give was a month ago. $40 - which even less than the time before. It'll just keep riding - it isn't hurting anything back there.

    when pm prices fall cats fall just like gold scrap prices when gold falls. $40/$60 is the range on ford cats right now.

    I have also been getting $40.00 each
    So the Crown Vic type V 8 engine with 4 gets $160.00 total

    The top cut on the passenger side just behind the starter is the hardest

    Thanks for the feedback. Also found out this guy buys cores, alternators, starters and ac pumps for 6$ each ! Beats the crap out of getting electric motor price per pound.

    Graded these cats as stainless steel, off a mopar car. And 5.5 pound.


    The gm stuff I pretty well know the value of but this dodge and ford is rather new to me. Just want to make sure Im not getting ripped off.

    Tater, I get $4 a lb on stainless converters, it's the one I feel I get underpaid on but I do so well on everything else I let it go. Online they pay $7 a lb or used to anyway. Not sure which motors they are on but sometimes there is two small pres similar to a ford but these are Chrysler stainless, just glance under the motor while your cutting the main converter off

    Edit. By the way on those 2.7s and 3.5s those suck to cut off

    The top 3 are all a type of honey comb.Should get $55 local for them.
    The other 2 are domestic wires they are sold buy the pound.They are around $10-$14 each But not worth shipping unless you have others packaged with them lol.
    on the ac's starters and such they are sold by the pound also should be anywhere from $7.50-$9.00 each.

    The cat in the middle is a high grade small. If the shield is split with the band its a small. High grade smalls to the right guy are 90. The other two are smalls at $57 currently. The domestic stainless are about $7 lb. Those are 8 lbs each.

    I'm a cat buyer from northern california. Your prices are way off. I'm just here to help some people out. Would you like to see some price sheets from the 3 big buyers in california? How about pictures with codes. Lol

    Prices vary depending on location just like steel and non ferrous metals. But hey if hes offering more, sell to him. If hes offering less, sell somewhere else. Simple.

    And in Cali, are cats the same as cats from say the east coast? Cause i know your emission laws are super strict. Maybe more of the pm's inside?

    Yes and no. Theres codes on gm cats crysler cats, toyota cats, Hyundai cats. As well as dpfs. There has recently been a big swing in the way they buy converters in the last year with the introduction to the codes. Its a competive market here for sure.

    I have a few costomers in alaska and I have noticed the cats don't seem to have as good of codes and have a lower average. I believe that has to do with emission laws

    My understanding from my core buyer (Lonnie you can jump in and verify) is that depending on where the cat was made and for what state or area... They are indeed packed differently. That is my understanding of why cat buyers are now starting to go by not only the "name" or "type" of the cat iteslf, but also taking a wire brush to get the number stamped on them.

    In the not so distant past a breadloaf was a breadloaf and it paid whatever a breadloaf paid. Currently, a breadloaf now is not just a breadloaf anymore- you could pull two Chevy Mailbu's from Indiana in at the same time, cut each of their breadloafs off- one will have a different number than the other- one may be worth $98 bucks, the other $65.. Identical "looking" converter, but the numbers tell the whole story for the core buyer.
    I'm so into scrapping.. When my Steel Toe Boots Wear out, I cut the Steel out of them and recycle the Toe!

    yeah they have changed some of them.Dont see why i think it is dumb.
    But like i said his prices are cracked out they are just 2 honeycombs from a taurus.One it not 98 and the other 50 lol.They will both bring about 55-58 each

    I only get $40 per on the bottom 2 in the OP's first picture. And with about 12 core buyers in the same town that you and I both sell into- it keeps the buyers as honest as possible.. so prices have to be competitive. If your core buyer pays $60 and mine pays $40.. I can just literally go around the corner and sell them at $60 vs $40.

    Yeah exactly. But also, in the past large companies would group together categories, and the world of averages would work itself out. But because of core buyers cherry picking loads and dumping seperately to whose paying the most for certain catagories, say 2500 pieces a month. To combat that, refinerys are testing individual cats based on the pgm load for each particular number on the cat, which would prevent them from getting dumped on. There buying it for exactly what it is. A breadloaf used to be a breadloaf. Now depending on the numbers. They go between 65-180. Fords have seen catagory changes but not particularly on any numbers. Newer model fords are typically higher grades, but not always. Multimetco, which is a refinery in alabama, has a branch in los angeles, are still buying for the most part without the numbers but will make sure you aren't dumping on them. If anyone would like a pdf on price codes let me know.
