Breaking down some low grade and lookie what I found.

I'm trying to get a load of low grade ready to take into my local yard.
I was going thru pulling the usual good stuff off them. (alum. transformers, coils, etc.) I'm always looking for anything out of the ordinary (after finding gold plug-ins on one board) and I found these goodies. Pretty small but with enough they will add up. Like someone else said awhile back, into my "oh my it's gold bucket". It does pay to keep the eyes open when breaking down boards.

I actually enjoy breaking down low/mid grade boards. Turn on the air compressor and use the air chisel to knock off the "good" componets in no time. I can usually pull 1.60 pound outta those battery back up boards after i knock offf the large transformers and aluminum heat sinks.

Chrisc, My posting was talking about low grade boards like out of stereos, TV's, microwaves, etc. Not to be confused with high grade laptop boards.

Mechanic...good finds. I was doing the same thing today and found one brown board with gold a gold pin connector and a nice sized green board with gold connectors in a DVD player, a first for me. Also, there were a couple of small green boards (no gold showing) in a Dell Trinitron 17" monitor.

Something to look for...when breaking down dvd drives on the low grade board look for those little push buttons. They will have silver contacts and once in a while gold ones. Now SirS can have a "oh my God its silver bucket" too. If I ever find platinum that will get a "Holy S**t its platinum" lablel.

On a side note I also found a ceramic silver window eprom on one of the dvd boards today, so don't rip and throw in the pile, take a sec and turn them over you may find a hidden goodie once in a while.

BC, I was pulling all the pushbuttons off the low grade stuff I had and they had a little disk inside with one side gold and the other side looked silver, seemed like every one was that way. Are they gold flashed or just anodized??

TBD, what I am doing now is keeping everything including the small housing which when you remove the disk also has metal in it. I believe that too is going to be silver. The disk could also be copper making contact with the metal (silver or gold). I have never seen gold or silver have any anodizing on it. Silver is one of the best conductors of electrical current with gold close behind so covering them with something would not make sense. I am awaiting a test kit so as soon as I know I will post results of my findings.
Keep putting in the oh crap its whatever buckets for now.

They look like this. If you pop the metal plate off the top, there is a gold plated disk.

They are about 1/4" or less square.

Check anything and everything with a button! Even the lowly brown boards from tvs/vcrs/etc have them at times.

Just wanted to update this when I got finished with all the low grades.

Here is an assortment of gold plated goodies. The 2 smallest boards were standing up soldered to a low grade, I cut thru the solder with a Stanley knife.

    Here's a close-up.

Still can't get the date fixed on my camera, lol

Mechanic688, these are picture of high grade boards, right? The kind you mail off to someone who buys this stuff? Just want to clear some things up. I have plenty that looks like that and other with little to no trace of gold.
