    Electical business close-out auction

Just got back from an auction of an electrical contractor who retired. I'd decided not to take the trailer. Had the 3/4 ton loaded when I came home. Funniest part was that a scrap yard owner (actually owns three yards and is a multi-millionaire) was there. From the first item - a HUGE pile of wire - he bid every strand of copper and aluminum wire there. He would jump the bid by 2-300 dollars just to get it. Another scrap dealer told me he'd said nobody else would be getting any wire. I bid against him a couple times but he'd just double the bid. Toward the end of the wire, there was a lot of four pallets of mixed copper and aluminum that I'd set $250 as the absolute limit. His first bid was $500. Then he kept it up with other lots of equipment. But I figured him out. He'd only bid on stuff he could "flip". So I started bidding on stuff like transformers, ballasts and junction boxes with steel screws. Everything (mostly) I bought needs something to max its value. I still did real good. What you can't see in the pictures are all the transformers I got. Picked up a nice battery charger, too.

People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

Just barely got that stuff unloaded and laid out so I can advertise it:

And I got a call from a guy I've picked up from several times. His brother-in-law's yard sale was ending and he was getting ready to throw a bunch away. If I wanted it, I'd need to get it today as he'd be at work tomorrow. Tired from unloading but went on over:

They thanked me for coming right over. It'll just have to wait till tomorrow to get unloaded.

Nice haul there Mick...Those 2 blue things in the back are pump jacks for old school scaffolding. Nail two 2x4's together to make a post and the pump jack rides it up. In 1992 had a post snap at 22ft off the ground and did the big free fall. Replaced with new aluminum poles not too long after that.

I think I'll just let these go to the scrap yard, then. Maybe they'll go as #1?
