A little more information. The bars that the laser head travels on is what I am talking about. Cannot find a schematic that tells me the name or even shows them. I have the opportunity to lay my hands on about 10,000 pcs which is around 10k ounces. I am trying to figure out what they are worth so I can tell if price is fair and I can make some money.

Are you talking about those round bars on each side of the head about 4" long ?? yes those are SS

Yeah but the question is, if you really had 10000 drives would you save the motors and lil brass? I don't. Just did 1 gaylord, 5000 drives give or take, and didn't save one motor. All shred. Just pulled boards.

oh goody I get to do some math. I just weighed one of the brass pieces its 4 grams. There are 454 grams in a pound. So that means 113 drives for a pound of brass. Now lets say it takes 5 seconds to pick up the side cutters and pull that little piece of brass from the motor. Thats 9.41 minutes per pound of brass. At 2 bucks a pound for brass thats $12 an hour. not to mention at 5000 drives if only half of them have the brass piece thats 20 pounds of brass. I dont do it though I make the kid do it I make her a deal if she pulls the boards and the brass piece I let her keep the carcass for shred. Its funny she fills up a trash can of the drives and says here 10 bucks in gas

Yes the bars are what I am talking about. Finally found out they are P8.
1 - The pins are already removed.
2 - The location is about 5 min. from my house.
3 - Yard is only 30 min.
Truck gets 16.7 miles to the gallon.
Estimated total time is = 2 hours labor.
Price is $150
I think I can come out okay.

Ok you proved me wrong. But if you have a large volume, I rather work on the 4-8 dollar a lb stuff than 1.75...lol!

I had too Oz, but the truth is unless your flooded with business and are turning away customers then you are doing nothing else with that time. I figure I am going to make about $500 after expenses. Only takes me to do the job so I just made about $250 per hour. I know attorneys that are not making that.

Save the two tiny little but very strong magnets beside the 'eye' of the laser.

Also, save the laser itself, two if its a read/write, they are Gold plated with Gold plated wires.
