    How does "the shredder" work?

Obviously, everybody here is familiar with "shredder material" or something similar, as a class of ferrous scrap. And we all know that it's kind of a catch all class, for everything that we don't ourselves break down any further, if at all. My question is, how does a shredder work, and how does it separate the higher value, non-ferrous metals from the ferrous, and the garbage, like the plastic and rubber, and wood, and glass components? Or does it?

    Anybody know?

There are several on Youtube. It first runs through and gets separated with large magnets - some while going through large "knives" on rollers. The magnets "pickup" the ferrous stuff while letting the nonferrous material fall into a separate bin. From there, it depends on the system they have. The more basic ones are simply crushers, like they put cars in and compact.
People may laugh at me, but that's ok. I laugh all the way to the bank.

They had a show on tv a few months ago about e waste recyclers. They had a machine that sorted all the wire they tossed in there. Toss in a handful of insulated wire and the insulation went out on dispenser and the copper went out 2 others. Somehow, it sorted solder and clean wire down separate dispensers. I want one. I would be playing with that all the time.
